Here's where it all begins. Mixing ingredients for curing eggs and the end result.

Fly fishing?
How's the battle with a steelhead like that?

Nice fish, BTW.

No fly fishing for me. Those bug flickers drive me nuts lol. It was caught using a sliding bobber and a rubber worm setup.
I generally use roe (salmon eggs) or night crawlers for bait. Washington instated new rules for coastal rivers prohibiting the use of bait when fishing for steelhead.
If you’ve ever fished for salmon, steelhead fight very similar to coho. Tail dancing and cartwheels on top of the water. It was only about 4 pounds. Fun to catch on light gear.

This was a 7.01 kicker fish I caught to win the Bill Lewis Rat-l-trap tournament on the California Delta. Took home $2050

None of the fish you mentioned exist here.
But I think I get it by what you described.

Freshwater, black bass are the hard asses.
Saltwater, probably redfish for close shore.

Well, time to jumpstart this thread. I went out Sunday and got my first chinook of the year. I haven’t fished since last November/early December. Salmon season is slowly getting started here in Washington. I went back out yesterday hoping to repeat my luck but, after five hours, I called it a day.

Nice salmon. Heading back to Terrace (Skeena River), and Kitimat (Kitimat river) long weekend September. Week fishing coho, pinks, and Steelhead. Picked a twitching rod this past week. Float both rivers. Yahoo….🇨🇦🥃🥃🥃

What twitching rod did you get? I have a Lamiglas infinity I use for that. We’re getting pinks in the Puget Sound this year to, so I’ll be happy harvesting them for eggs. Nothing like a bobber down while fall fishing for coho and, chinook.
I look forward to your pics 👍

Lost a large chinook this morning. Spent three hours fishing before finally hooking into one. Just to have it shake the hook. Frustrating.
I couldn’t keep these little guys off my line either. Nothing like feeling a head shake, setting the hook and, reeling this in lol.

Caught these smaller to medium grade yellowtails last week on the Excalibur outta HM landing. Kelp patty fishing is a lot of fun but I was hoping for a bluefin tuna. Next trip is in October, hopefully we’ll get ‘em.

Those are delicious!!!! Nice catch for sure. When I lived in California, myself and, a few friends would spear fish off the Palos Verdes peninsula. Every now and, then we’d manage to get a few of those along the kelp beds.
Looks like you limited. 👌

He gave it to his grandmother - every month at work we have a fish fry of speckled trout and redfish. Flounder and red snapper are my favorite saltwater fish for sure.

My son made us some snapper with a crab sauce the other night - should have taken a pic and put it on the home cooking thread.

I was a 3rd generation fishing guide and my wifes family were guides too so I have had many fresh fish days but my all time favorite that i would make for our group of 30 each year for over a decade at sportsman weekend mini lobster season is a simple concoction.
Snapper filets cooked in just butter, lemon, salt and pepper laid over some white rice and hollandaise sauce poured over the top and then add some lobster chunks. So great. It's been awhile, i need to head out for some tails.

Here is our favorite fishing channel mostly because they fish in my two favorite places to fish a lot, west coast Florida and Cayman Islands. Well maybe not " mostly". 😁

Kinda tough taking selfie’s when you fish by yourself. Reminds me. I need a fish scale.
This is about 16 pounds.

I got some sad news last night. I received a message from a friends wife that my buddy lost his battle with pancreatic cancer a couple days ago. His name was Phil Stephen’s. He was voted top guide in the state of Washington several times. I learned a lot from him over the short 3 years I knew him. He showed me recipes for curing salmon eggs, depths and areas to fish, along with what colors to use under different conditions. He was a great guy that will be greatly missed.
RIP PHIL.

Managed two coho after work today. Not the biggest fish. However, they’re my favorite salmon to eat.
