Rod and Reel. I was born and raised in Oklahoma so noodling is something I am all too familiar with and enjoy. A few (10) years ago I moved to Wisconsin and now Iowa. This was caught from shore on the Fox River right outside Omro, WI on an 8 inch sucker.

My brother in law took my son and I out on the Missouri River in Montana. Such a beautiful place and the fishing was excellent. My son caught the biggest of the day.

Damn. I never realized how big burbot got. They have them here in lake Washington. Freshwater lingcod.

Crossed a river in the dark this morning. Spent three hours fishing. It was raining pretty hard and the river was on the rise. Cut the day short to stay safe but, managed one Chinook. Still waiting on silvers to arrive.

The wife and I went for a hike today to the "war zone" today ,burt damn is big destination for fisherman this time of year . I saw a bunch of out of state cars in the lot. We like to go there and watch those crazy A-holes fish on top of each other ,fights are not uncommon.

Fights happen all the time on rivers here. It's not uncommon for guns to get pulled out as well.
Heck, a couple weeks ago I went to a pier on the Puget Sound and watching people argue over squid (calamari) was pretty funny. I mean, its bait right?

Where are you fishing that you’re still waiting for silvers to show up? All our natural run silvers are more or less done except for a few trickling in here and there

I'm fishing in Washington state.
There's a couple different rivers waiting for silvers to show up. Chehalis, Satsop, Wynoochee, Humptuliips to name a few. . They're all Greys Harbor fish. The Satsop is probably my favorite.
Mostly bobber and egg fishing. The Coho run on that river is the longest in the state. Oct-Jan and sometimes into Feb.

Yes I know carp are garbage, but man was this thing fun to bring in. It weighed 16 pounds.

I only was able to reel on this one for a minute and then hold it and pretend I caught it.

Awesome photo. Love fishing. Especially silverbacks (Coho). Some nice ones on this thread. Mostly fish walleye, pike, salmon, steelhead, and halibut. However caught my first small mouth Bass last year (4lbs) and they sure are aggressive. Small mouth in the shallows basking in the sun. Then attack lure instantly. Took old man (80) fishing Skeena, and Kitimat rivers this fall.

This is my dad and oldest son last year on the Salmon River in Idaho. He was just a month shy of turning 3! My dad set up his Mickey Mouse fishing pole. I just happened to glance over right after my dad handed him the pole and watched that thing damn near bend over and touch itself, I helped him reel in it and that’s all he talked about for the rest of our trip.

Never. A rep who is also a salmon guide for Pautzke, wrote an article about river with directions to a spot I fished for over ten years. It brought in crowds and made it so you had to show up at 3 am instead of 530 am to get a spot. Pautzke isn't bad but, there's better stuff out there. One thing myself and several friends noticed was while fishing a river with Pautzke full of chum and silvers your actually going to end up hooking more chum. We did this over a couple years. His Pautzke against my cure. He got a lot of chum in comparison to me. They're plankton feeders. Aka krill. Coho feed on krill but, also feed more on herring, squid, candle fish, and anchovies.
I ran into that Pautzke rep a couple years after his article on a river I fish quite a bit. He asked what I had in the cooler for bait since we were sharing the same gravel bar.
Just told him a little this and a little that. You?
He said I use nothing but Pautzke and never had any reason to. Well, after that day he left pissed. I smoked him 9:1. I got a mix of Chinook and Coho. I got my fourth Chinook of the morning before he got his only fish. A chum. If your interested in curing eggs, feel free to pm me. Here's that guy with me standing next to him. Its a good feeling I had to savor being a nobody in the fishing industry . The look on his face is priceless. If you don't know who he is, look up Fish Hunt NW on YouTube. Its more about the principal that I don't use Pautzke. Neither do my friends.

I asked because there are some guys up here who sell their own but just use Pautzke which I think is a little ridiculous. I figured you didn't but thought to ask! I will definitely PM you about your cure. I'm not a guide or anything but of course always looking for (legal) advantages and I'm interested in curing my own. Thanks

It's a never ending rabbit hole. How much sugar, salt, sodium sulfite, sodium nitrite, sodium nitrate, borax, msg, who makes the best sugar, brown, white, color, orange, natural, pink or red? . Vanilla, anise, shrimp, garlic, krill, herring, anchovies, squid, peppermint, vanilla?

Once you get started, it's fun. Its like playing chemist with bait. Once you figure out a good bait you'll think, how can I make this better? But, nothing beats watching your bobber go down when others are watching in frustration.

Koh Samui Thailand in 2016, I'm not much of a fisherman, but I did have a good time.

The Coho is 19" for reference. I had to keep the chum being so low on eggs. Dinner and bait. I can't complain.

Chums are so frustrating, I saw some caught this year that were easily 30+ lbs. Guys thought they were hauling in decent Kings, only to realize a second later...

I call them in law fish. When in laws are in town and want salmon, well........ They love it lol..I'm just happy I got more eggs.
The only thing about chum that frustrates me is a lot of people focusing on Coho end up getting chum. The problem is most of these guys are using light gear or noodle sticks directed at Coho or even steelhead and, it takes them forever to get their fish in.
I always go heavy with my gear because chum along with Chinook can and will test your gear. I currently use a Lamiglas infinity rod rated 12-30,
10' 6" with 50# braided main and 25# leader under a bobber. My reel is a Abu Garcia 6501 C3. Chum break up the monotany of waiting to hook that Coho plus their eggs are excellent for curing.

Yep I go heavy too for my salmon rods. More often than not, especially during sockeye season, combat fishing on the Russian River/Kenai River is a pain in the ass if you're on light gear. Nobody wants to deal with the guy on the lightest gear possible trying to haul in a sockeye when there's 500 people lined shoulder-to-shoulder

I grew up in So Cal. I fished a lot of the beaches and several of the lakes. Castiac, Pyramid, Irvine, Cachuma and Casitas. I always read salmon fishing magazines as a kid and still do but, never would've imagined moving up here. Now, being able to go to several rivers and catch them, is pretty amazing.
The unfortunate part is, the crowds. You'll get fish but, sometimes your patience gets tested. I was up at 3:30 am and on the river by 5. Most people fishing the same river know where the holes are the fish stack up.
Today's fish.
