anyone riding the Yamaha Ténéré 700? Put deposit on one, waiting for my dealer to receive it.

I have one. I haven't had a chance to take it off road yet. But I like it so far.

I got one last weekend to replace my KLR650 and my Guzzi Stelvio NTX. It’s a blast, I’m loving it. It’s ridiculously better than the KLR in every conceivable way, but especially at highway speed, it actually feels and performs like a street bike should. It’s not as comfy as the Guzzi for a long highway trip but certainly adequate enough that I don’t feel the need to keep it around just for that.

Such a fun bike, great handling on street, god on highway and lots of fun on dirt roads. I'm getting a set of more knobby tires (Michelin Anakee Wild rear and Pirelli MT31 front) to get more confidence in the Florida sand.

This bike really makes me wish I was back in Africa or living out West.

Love the engine.... love the controls... but it definitely has on road suspension, and at nearly 500lbs, it is a handful in the tight stuff... if you mainly ride open areas that aren't too rough, solid bike... if you actually want to get the tires off the ground or ride in tighter wooded areas, imo the 690/701 is highly preferred

Can’t do too much about the 450lb curb weight, but at it’s price point you can afford to upgrade the suspension and have a very capable oversized dirt bike that is truly great on the street. I love mine, it really does feel like a big dirt bike with the suspension being it’s only major flaw. I’m going Ohlins on mine this winter while the snow flies.

It has minor flaws but they’re all easy and cheap to fix. I won’t be worried about breaking down on a mountain in Peru and being able to ride it out to safety. It’ll be many thousands of miles of mostly pavement to get down there and back and they won’t be punishing on this bike.

I will always keep a real dirt bike in the garage though for gnarly single track riding or light moto which bikes like these were never intended for. You have to be realistic about what your intentions are on one of these bikes before you buy one, as it’s a lot closer to an Africa Twin than a 500EXC.

I just did 95% of the NVBDR, I was on my BMW F800GS, buddy was on T700.

He rode circles around me off-road.

The BMW has VERY LITTLE adjustability in the suspension, so you have to ride it like they sent it to you. It is a great bike, but I like to race, and you can get the BMW “bottoming out” the front end that is simply not on par.

We were checking our “dust ring” when stopping, and I was dust free to the bottom of my inner fork tube, his was never wiped clean more than 50% of his travel.

He goes 6’ 2”, maybe 235, and I am 6’ 2”, but weigh 195.

The T 700 is twice the bike that my BMW is.

how/what Ohlins are you going, replacing the rear and fork springs? I am thinking about it too, I am in Southwest Florida and looking for a place nearby that could do some suspension work.

Changed to the Michelin Anakee Wild rear and Pirelli MT31 front, the bike is definitely not as good on road as it was with the stock Pirellis (handled so well on tarmac) but I've got more confidence on the gravel roads, the soft sand and other dirt roads of SWFL.

Ohlins sells a rear shock and fork cartridge kits for the bike. They’ve been on backorder since last fall but should arrive any day now, can’t wait. I went with a heavier shock spring and 10mm fork spring preload spacers to get me by and it improved the suspension/handling a lot as they are very soft, but still too soft for serious off road.

I believe Corbin makes seats for these.

Seat Concepts as well. I’ve got their standard width rally seat and it’s way better than stock. They also offer a wider comfort seat which I would imagine would be even better for long days in the saddle, but I’ve done some 8-10 hour days and am perfectly content until usually the home stretch.

why is UpShift going with the Yosh pipe instead of the Arkapovic? The Akra claims about 8 lbs saving for the full system, I can't find weight gain for the Yosh system.
