I have a 19 350sxf that I’m setting up for hare scramble/woods. Idk exactly where my speed is but I used to race A motocross locally but had a few years off with being in military. Anyway, I’ve had a set of Gen 1’s on order with Corey at ProTune since the beginning of February. Just talked to him today and Gen 2’s are available. He has 12 Gen 1’s on back order and mx-tech told him they should be getting some parts in next week to build some. I’m #3 on the list so hopefully he gets at least 3 sets.

The stock aer48 was never confidence inspiring. Always wanted to wash out. I’m 195# with gear and was running 130# with 32 out on compression to make it ride half decent on trails. Corey also said the KYB conversion is on back order until June.

Just thought I’d comment and throw some info out. When I get mine I’ll be sure to comment on how they ride.

Make sure he doesn’t go too stiff on the base Valving like mine. He just did a set of WP 6500 Pro carts for a guy I know and he has the same issue. He’s sending me a new shim stack to install.

You all with the luckies think I can just add the oil with a syringe through the bleeder hole? I have a cap tool coming but it might not be here by the weekend. Pro tune recommended adding 20cc of oil to each leg and the bleeders are right there in front it would be so easy to do just not sure how well it works. I guess I’ve read you have to somehow remove some air by compressing the forks or putting some oil in and trying to remove air with the syringe but I’ve never done it before.

Yup, just go slow. You don’t need the fancy cap socket they sell, you can use an $8 pin spanner.
Adding 25cc didn’t change much for me in terms of travel/bottoming.

Well damn I went and bought the mxtech tool which was $55 because I didn’t know what would fit. I’m going to try the syringe this weekend and hopefully that works

Syringe is fine, I’ve added fluid a couple times so far. Just use a syringe and add slowly other wise an air bubble forms if you go too fast and the fluid goes all over the cap. I use a 50cc syringe.

Rode em for a year and sent them to Pro Tune and Corey made them better. I've never rode CV forks or Lucky Carbons just adding my real world .02 cents.

I hear ya CKNY. I know it's frustrating to spend money on upgrades and not getting what you wanted.
That was my only time using Protune but have used others in the past.
My biggest observation about not being happy with a suspension revalve (may not apply to you) is telling the tuner you're faster than you really are so then the set up is too stiff or harsh.

I was pretty honest telling him the details needed. Sometimes you just don’t get it right the first time. He’s sending me new base valve stacks that I will install myself.
He has to revalve a set of WP Pro inserts for a guy I know for the same issue.
Another buddy of mine just ordered a set of Pro inserts so I will see how they turn out.
The MXT canned setting for offroad with Luckies is way too stiff for any slow speed stuff. That’s why I went to Corey so he could valve them for me personally.

What spring rate does everyone have? I was given .48’s for my lucky carbons for MX 210lbs no gear.

I don’t know if they are too soft or heavy but the forks definitely don’t feel plush especially into braking bumps.

What bike? 4T will require more spring rate.

So to summarize, it seems like everyone loved the original OC Lucky's with few setup issues. Plush.

The new Carbon CC Lucky's have almost no glowing reviews, and a lot of setup issues. Not Plush.

The original's are sold out almost all the time. Carbon's ready to deliver. Not much different than every other CC fork, never seen anyone ask a tuner to make them more firm. Always the other way. I'd say if you aren't racing for a living do yourself a favor and get the originals.

The price point and weight is till market leading on both, but the competition has been improving. Dal Saggio's, Ohlin's, Lanier and other's are all a bit more pricey. Many expect the original setup to need personalized valving, but the originals seemed to be an exception to that rule.

My gen 1 regular luckies are very plush. I added 25cc of oil to the forks to help with a bit of bottoming but haven’t had any weather where I can ride with them yet. I will say though that I’m really impressed with the forks they work very well. The only thing I’ve had to get used to and it’s not even a negative is they seem to stick to the ground more than the AER. Hard to describe but they don’t hop off of little bumps and just stick and soak up everything. I also noticed that the bike turns better since they hold a line much better than the aer forks.

I think I've read 100 reviews just like that. I was hoping the Carbon's would be the same, but it hasn't.

Luckily the suspension tuner I used was a good guy and not just trying to upsell me. He said based on my age/speed/skill that he didn’t recommend the carbons. Mx tech on the other hand did recommend the carbons but I went with the tuner and I’m very happy

Yes, I think it's pretty accurate. I've been running Gen 1 Lucky's for over 2 years on my 2502T.

A very high level summary:
C-B Speed-Technical Riding, More Enduro than MX - Gen1
B-A Speed, More MX Than Enduro - Gen2 Carbon.

The carbons are there for faster riders and have additional bottoming resistance and an altered huck valve design. Definitely set up for riders on the throttle in the mind. For my 350, I had the same complaints and went with Epica Cartridges. Love them.

Corey is great and "local" to me and did my 2502T. Brian at N2D was also amazing to work with and did my Epica. He is a huge seller and bragger for MX Tech products too. You can give him a call for the MX Tech and the right setup for you

2018 TC250, I might have to call some suspension companies who work with them and see what they recommend.

That’s why people switch to a spring fork. Aer fork front end traction and feel is not as good.

I’ve seen some great reviews of the carbons. No reason they should be any less plush than the standard OC version. Lots of people have said that the standard Lucky were shipped with settings that were too stiff or firm. The general consensus is that if you order from MX Tech they are too stiff. They ship with one setting for MX or Offroad and the base stack is too stiff. I’ve been comparing my Luckies with other peoples set ups lately. Last bike was a 2021 TM EN300 and also a 21 TE300 with Ohlins inserts.
I’m still waiting for Corey to send me a new base stack but he has not answered my daily texts for over a week now.

Mx tech set up a set of gen 2 carbons in a husky 350 I’ve ridden and they are super plush. Set up for a c rider, they nailed it imo.

There are some advantages in mx that you shouldnt tell your competition about.. MXTECH is one of them.

Helped alot of guys here pick out thier luckys.
Both set ups are great and can be tuned anyway needed. Carbons tend to have a bit more hold up then gen 1 kind of like showa vs kyb in feel. BUT that is heavily dependent on how they are valved. I have had both and both performed the same because they were valved for how i want them to work. It is beyond important to just like with any suspension set up to be clear what yoy want the suspension to do and how you want it to feel. I always tell people by the time your done explaining to ur tuner what you need you should feel like you just told them your life story.
