I dont know about all the math and science behind the MC but i did do an 03 yz250 build, i used an mc off of an 09 yz and it was better. Maybe it was a feel or the progression, but it was better, this was with oem caliper, hose and pads. Just my .02

Today I got a Yamaha Ti shock spring from my mate, Its handy when your mates have had as many Yamaha's as you and have heaps of bits laying around. Its a 5.1 so hopefully it will turn out to be the right spring rate with the longer YZF swing arm because its a lot lighter.





Thats an possible Gain of 394g folks...

Yep, that Ti spring is a great mod for these bikes to easily save almost a pound. I got the same numbers too +\- a few grams 👍🏻



I originally ran the 5.1 on my yz250 with the yzf swingarm mod as well. Depending on how much you weigh or how fast you are it will work well. That being said I have since got a little fatter (175lbs so thanks Covid lockdown) & a little faster so I just swapped to a titanium 5.3.

Im not that heavy but I am also not that fast, so we will see.

I run the 2009 yz250f swingarm, linkage and 09+ rear on my yz, the length change doesnt matter since the length is determined by your chain length (114link) and my spring rates didnt change either. still running same spring same sag etc

Really? I thought the YZF swing arm was longer, I recall reading a few posts that it was longer, one I remember cited by 15mm, I have both still so I'll measure tomorrow. Either way it is lighter and better developed, looks way better too.

While I'm waiting for all my parts to arrive there isn't really much to do, so I find myself rummaging through all of the components and creating more stuff to do out of boredom, its surprising how much time I can sink into something innocuous. I could have done some porting today but I gave the compressor and my neighbours a break.

Looking at the ugly case saver and sprocket cover gave me something to do, it looks really dated. I thought about buying the newer shape one off a later model but its still ugly. There are a few aftermarket case savers but I don't want to over do it with the anodised aluminium. Had a bit of a hunt around in some parts boxes and found the case saver off a YZF I have all stripped apart. Bolt pattern and basic shape is the same but is much more modern looking with a lot less material.



The old one is clearanced for the clutch actuator arm in the case, to avoid contact I removed some material with the linisher, we also know that the four stroke case saver is to suit their standard 13 tooth sprocket and the YZ runs a 14 up front, I bolted the two together on the case so I could scribe the material needed to be removed so the bigger sprocket doesn't chew it out.





Fitment sorted I removed some of the plastic from the guard to clean it up a bit. I wanted to dye the rear brake line guides black so I threw the guard in too, the guard came out great but the guides didn't take any dye. First time I've had this result.





I may not even run the plastic guard yet at all, ahwell at least I wasn't bored.

I also dont like the anodized blue stuf. But i think the chinese products look better than the stock yamaha ones. I bought some axle blocks and removed the anodizing.

Got some Cerakote done, Tungsten lays down so good. I have a lot more to do on this rig.

All parts get sand blast before Cerakote, needs a good profile for the coating to adhere to. I use a medium grit garnet and blast at 80 psi usually.

Got a a few items tidied up with the YZ last weekend, brakes are finalised now. Both callipers are done in brunt bronze cerakote, rear calliper is fully furnished with Titanium including a titanium nitride coated titanium piston. Font calliper is slightly less exotic, I've coated the steel slide pins with Micro slick and re used the aluminium pistons rather than replacing them with Ti, the stock pistons look to be coated with Kashima and they are lighter than ti anyway. I chose a Braking 280mm calliper bracket and ill run my 280mm Motostuff disc. I coated my chosen master cylinder, the stock 11mm yz unit and also replaced the sight glass and fitted up the Renthal Intelli-lever.













The Inner clutch cover turned out very nice and i like how it matches the Luxon cover pretty close, the engine cases will be the same colour, Cerakote E-100 Blackout, its very nice to spray.



Also love the Factory fork guard bushes for the outer tubes.

he sells them Ti Nitride coated, you just have to know what piston fits your brakes as not all bikes are listed.

the front doesn’t make sense as it has alloy pistons. There you just need the hardware, sliders, etc.

Now I know I said at the beginning of this build the goal was to use as much local stuff as possible, I guess that also translates into supporting local businesses but honestly theres no way I could build this bike with as many new and premium parts as this if I spent my dollar domestically. That being said...

My big box of bits from America arrived today! OEM plastics, crank, engine bearings, powervalve parts, shifter, tank strap, lock washers, some important nuts inside the engine, Steahly 9 oz flywheel weight and a Lectron 38mm H series carb. I think this will be the best bike I've ever built.









All of the plastics on this bike are now brand new Yamaha, There's not much left on the list to buy, I think a clutch cable, piston, linkage bearing kit, grips, wheels bearings, rim locks, some black rear brake line guides should have it sorted off the top of my head. Ti spring rubbers and YZ-X pv shims are on order from Yamaha also. Suspension is basically ready to go back together, although I've been thinking about redoing the cerakote on the lugs in Elite Blackout Cerakote like on the Showa Lug from the Graphite black I did them in originally. I will think about it.

The Kings are FMF & MXStore though. On the Warning List is ARC (one small sticker) and Luxon (same) and we all know those brands on the shit list, You know who you are!

Also, does anybody know what year YZF uses black rear brake line guides? I want to order some I tried dyeing the ones of the 09 YZF I stole the swingarm from but the dye didn't take, which shouldn't be possible if you ask Rit

Yeah I've seen them getting around and Ill have a look.

Not sure what you mean about the flywheel, I have never tried a flywheel weight so I have no idea but apparently it was choice for a lot of factory guys back in the day, smooths out the power and takes the hit out of the powerband. I like smooth power I spent a lot of time making my husky 4 stroke like.

I am buying a YZ250 tomorrow and would like to know how a flywheel weight feels. I sold my yz125 last week and didn't mind the 2 stroke hit but just wanted more power.
