In all seriousness, you need to have a second opinion immediately. That looks almost identical to my son's break about 9 months ago. He got it plated and screwed and recovered in no time.

I done mine as bad 22 years ago. The doc offered me a plate but then told me they risked damaging nerves if they went in & could do permanent damage to the function of my arm & hand. He basically talked me out of it. 3 months later on my first race back i tangled with a back marker & when i went down the guy behind hit me & it shattered into pieces. Every winter for about 12 - 15 years after it was agony. & i never had correct range of motion in my shoulder because of how it healed & ended up tearing my rotator cuff years later. I always said once i broke it again i would have it plated & corrected but after 22 years i never broke it again. Thankfully the pain has left & the lump has went down a lot. Its a big decision either way but if i had my go again id plate it.

Hope you heal up quick

Definitely get second opinion. Broke mine about 7 weeks ago and had surgery the week after.

I honestly already have good range of motion. Certain movements hurt a lot but I was riding a ttr125 earlier with my niece and nephew and did alright and changed the power steering pump on my jeep with minimal pain I can push well but pulling hurts. I can't lie on my right side and lifting my arm about my head to put a shirt on causes sharp pain. But I have an appointment tomorrow for a second opinion.

Mine looked similar. 1st ortho doc said if you asked 10 docs, 5 would say plate it, 5 would say let it heal. 2nd opinion ortho doc said plate it. Got it plated, got an infection, 7 surgeries later I'm left with no plate and a 31mm gap. Wish I'd had let it heal on its own. The whole ordeal dominated my life for 2 years and $20k.
Your name doesn’t match your story! That sucks man I feel for ya!

When I broke mine in two places x-ray looked same as yours however one end was lined up a little better than yours. No surgery. Healed fine. No issues but left with a large lump.

Second doc is a premier shoulder surgeon. He basically said that it will likely heal without surgery but my risk go up considerably for loss of function non union malunion. He does suggest surgery and I'm scheduled for tomorrow at 8am. He doesn't think the previous doc was wrong as vital would have you think lol. But did say I have to many factors to ignore surgery including how overlapped the bones are.

So for those of you who have had the surgery for did you feel in the days immediately following surgery? Both pain and mobility?

Goin in for my plate next Monday. I’ll have one of each, my left came back together all crooked but the right should be good with the plate!

No one should feel sorry for me, life is good man. I can still send it, just for not as long.

I broke my clavicle at ACP SX weekend in 16. This was me and my little girl (she's 17) in 20 for SX weekend, right before covid.

Arm was in a sling for 4 weeks. Doc said no driving, etc. Minimal to no pain after surgery. Range of motion was decent after the 4 weeks and escalated to excellent shortly thereafter. Only drawback... surgery site was numb to the touch for 6 months or so. That went away gradually and came back to normal. Best of luck with it.

Broke mine for the first time Thursday. Doc says it should heal without surgery which I would prefer but my mind can't comprehend how. Anybody had a break like this without surgery? How was the healing process? I honestly got pretty good range of motion now I just can't lift my arm laterally.
You need an open reduction and fixation straight away mate. Don't delay, go to a competent sports medicine Orthopedic doc. You'll be way better off in the long run.

I got it repaired yesterday and like I said it wasn't as big of a deal as people in here made it seem. The doctor performing my surgery was Dr Throckmorton and is probably the best shoulder guy in the Memphis area. He said no surgery was an option and estimated it to be an 80% success rate. He did say with how overlapped mine was in particular I had a greater than normal chance of non-union or malunion. He suggested surgery because it increased my chance of proper healing to about %95 based on my age and general health with almost no chance of complications.

At the end of all this I would tell others not to panic in the face of a broken collarbone. I saved myself a ton of money by calling my insurance and getting a list of approved ortho docs and seeing them immediately instead of an er. I did get a second opinion that I trusted and chose to go that route. But I learned you realistically have a week to two to make the decision but of course the sooner the better. I broke my collarbone last Thursday and got it repaired in Wednesday with no ill effects.
