Got a HRC replica clewis, that’s helped with the adjustability of the rear brake, of course I had to use a titanium nut for it.
Found a nice set of titanium yz oem pegs that will go on the bike as soon as I have the mounts done for them. For now I‘m just thinking of cutting them of a Yz frame and after blasting them welding the on to the XR frame.

Got the anodizing of the rear brake pedal, which takes away the ‘bling’ look. There’s quite a bit of weight savings in this setup. Alloy pedal with Ti bolts Steel braided brake line, alloy banjo bolts, alloy crush washers, modified rear caliper with Ti hardware, Yz250f master cylinder, HRC replica clevis and titanium nut, modified hanger bracket.

The stock pedal is about nearly 3 times as heavy.
With the subframe, shifter, and brake pedal the savings at about:
5.555g ( there some things I forgot to weigh)
So if this where a stock XR250R it would already be at 98 kgs dry. (Stock Honda claims 104kgs dry). 😊

I just used drain cleaner with warm water ( I guess oven cleaner works as well) , and sunk the parts in that for about a minute. The I just rinsed them of with clean water and cleaned the rest of with a toothbrush.

Small update so far, I was able to locate a used yz450f frame that I can cut the footpeg mounts from. The machinist finished the stem, it’s on its way back to me.

I haven’t gotten around to doing the welding yet but, I got the stem back from the machinist, it’s made of the same 7075 alloy PC and Xtrig make the stems from and we were able to get it to only 10g heavier than the stock Xr250r stem although it’s a bit longer.

Mounted the clamps, still Looking for the M24x1 and M26x1 nuts in alloy. Got the Forks cleaned, fitted with new skf seals. Still waiting for bushings before I can reassemble.

Was able to find the adjuster nut and the top nut for the upper clamp in titanium, still hoping for a alloy version but I’ll settle Ti for now. Should be able to make up for the 10g in weight difference from the stem.

Small update for the rear brake. I was able to get oem service kit for a decent price.
So that’s all done now.

Fork conversion is mostly done. I just waiting on the two big Ti-nuts for the stem. Rear brake is done too.

Not to much happing at the moment. Got the two Ti nuts in place and I’m waiting on the sm pro rims, I wanted to go for excel but in the end the price tag and availability was an issue.

Not much has happened since the last update, I was able order the titanium exhaust system from Japan, but ist takes 6-7 weeks to get here. It’s fabricated on Order. I‘m ok with that as Yamamoto is the only Company still offering one. I’m having some trouble getting rims for the XR als it’s a pretty uncommon bike in Germany. The 600 seems to have been pretty popular but there’s only a handful of them registered in Germany. Yeah so still trying to finde some black SM pro or excel rims ( rear is becoming an issue to find as it is 32 holes, 2,15x18”).
Got the big bore piston on order for 280cc, hotcam stage 1 and gaskets are on it’s way.

Swing arm pivot and, rear axle are made by Ralph from http://www.componentengineering.co.uk/
He‘s the guy to contact if you custom axles or bolts, he did my Rear and swingarm pivot for My WR250F. Amazing quality and reasonable price.

Anyone ever heard of Cyril Esquirol?

Pretty cool one of XR400R,
Alloy subframe, full titanium exhaust, öhlins shock, alloy tank, cevlar skidplate.



As far as I could find out it is the only factory XR400 that was ever build with support from HRC. But what do I know, XRs are not really my type of bike.

Unfortunstley i cant find a pic of the bike in it’s glory days. But around 2000 two brothers from Sweden rode the enduro world championship on XR’s and made a custom rear subframe to match the A loop tank.

Those bikes turn up now and then on the swedish version of craigs list and here is one of their bikes like 15 years after the brothers had them.

Hey Tumic,

That’s pretty RAD!!!, it’s funny once you start doing a bit of Research on what people have done with XRs you find, people have gone pretty crazy with these things. I saw that BBR did a alloy frame for the bike too. 😂. I mean the XR must have kicked of the 4s development, they have gone a long way since then. Sadly reliability wise they went backwards after the XR.

The tank mount will be reproduced in carbon, that’s why I only got one. I also got a sheet of thin carbon fiebre to trace out the steel airboot frame.
