Not worth it to me. But they are a cool part of my childhood, though I had a CR80.

Collector's items are a strange breed. $13,000 for two XR80s is really no different than $400,000 for a '66 Mustang, when you think about it. Definitely not worth that price to anybody except the one guy who paid that much.

Were '66 Mustangs still in production, functionally unchanged, for less than $2500 brand new as recently as 2016?

No joke if I were a millionaire I’d give $10,000 for a nice 86 RM250 because that was my first big bike and holds a ton of precious and good memories. Maybe the buyer feels the same about xr80s🤷‍♂️

Wow, that was my first bike. 86 XR80. I was born in 87 lol. I had to buy my own bike so saved Xmas and birthday money and bought one for $600 when I was 7.

Would be almost tempting. Cool just seeing that pic though.

No, but that doesn't change the fact that a Mustang is woefully outperformed by virtually every car on the road built today. OK, that's a stretch... every performance car built today.
People still buy them and pay top dollar because there is some other intrinsic value then the performance. The functionality isn't part of the equation here.
People love the "XR" nameplate and it brings some value to the table, despite the fact that a 2016 CRF80 is really the same motorcycle.
