13:09 Exit for Andrew Short

After three very impressive participations and especially a 6th-placed finish obtained in 2019, American Andrew Short has met with disappointment on the second stage. He ground to a halt after 273 km of the special due to a mechanical problem that he has not been able to fix. Convinced that it was not necessary to wait for help from his assistance team, he has thrown in the towel and has been airlifted from the stage by one of the organiser’s helicopters

I dont know enough about the navigation, but if they don't navigate via GPS, how did a GPS error cause an issue?

If I understand it, the GPS does unlock once you're close the the waypoint. Perhaps that was the issue?
On certain virtual checkpoints, a GPS arrow will point in the direction of the waypoint once inside a certain vicinity

Shorty's engine must have suffered a catastrophic failure for him to walk away and in my opinion rather sooner than later.

Well that's is what i mean by not a good look for Yamaha. Mechanical failures are part of that race, but this early? Yikes.

Look at F1, some of those guys end their races in the first turn. Hell, some don't even make it through the formation lap.

What won't be good is if it was a top-end related failure as all of his teammates still have 10 days to go and only one Piston Change without penalty this year.

What a day again! This one might be a barn burner, we haven't even made it far enough in for tires and pistons to really come in to play yet and we already got drama!

Super bummed for Shorty, just gut wrenching really.

Seems like with the way it's gonna play out this year there is no reason to get too wound up about the results until after the rest day. Ricky and Toby did basically another flip flop today.

Bummed for Walkner to have a bike problem, but he's still in the race so now KTM has easily the fastest "water boy" on course, could be an advantage in the second half of the race for sure.

Cool to see Barreda get a Stage win, this is his last Dakar on the bike and although the Overall win has eluded him to date, he's a Dakar legend by any stretch. 25 stage wins is incredible!

10 days to go!

It is very possible that Andrew Short received fuel contaminated with water. The fuel is not supplied by Yamaha, it is supplied by the organizer, ASO.

The team is very specific about what can and can't be shown in pictures.

Yet anyone with the cash can buy a KTM rally bike. Not a good look for Honda.

If they’re all provided the same fuel from the same supplier, does this point to sabotage? Thats a colossal waste of time and money wasted on something you have zero control over.

If this is true then it is a fuck up of epic proportions on the event organiser/fuel supplier, colossal fuck up.

This is a picture from a fair few years ago - that Engine has No similarity to any 450 Honda make for sale - or, even their MXGP 450s.

Just look at the cam cover, for a start.

I'd say it's still a totally different engine. If it had Any similarity to production or even Works MXGP engines, I'd think you'd see more 'unclothed' pictures. And Honda spruiking that it was 'production based'.

I hope we get to see some pictures this year to get an idea of what they are, underneath all that bodywork, currently .

Still early in the stage but saw Skyler was leading so had to screen shot haha
He’s been solid top 10 the first few stages, I hope he can just keep it steady!! Sold pretty much everything he owned to get to Dakar this year.. he definitely deserves a good result/team for next year!

Edit: soo I was cherry picking a little bit with the screenshot since not all the riders had been through the waypoint yet, looks like he’s sitting around 4th
