Timing system for lap times when training

Hello!

Previously I used a freelap watch and transmitter to get lap times when training.

- I could see total riding time (so I can know I ride 20 mins or something)
- When I pass the transmitter the lap time was displayed for a few seconds

Sadly, I've missplaced them and freelap no longer sells the watch. They're selling some smaller transponders instead and price for a whole system is pretty high.

I've tried using my garmin forerunner 245, but the gps is not accurate enough. I've been looking at gps based timing systems for mx, but I'm not convinced on buying one yet.

So for my question:

Does anyone know of a timing system that:
- not using gps
- transmitter that I place somewhere on the track
- device on me/ the bike
- preferably with a display that shows me my lap times as I ride. Does not need to show total time, but it's of course good. Will still ride with the garmin watch so I could use the total time on that one

Thanks!

/Michael

if someone has a freelap watch for sale let me know!

I'm looking for the same thing. Litpro had a pretty cool setup with "Litpro Live." This system would give lap times/ segment times via small headphones that you wear under your helmet. The headphones were connected to a small bluetooth device. It worked really well but Litpro is pretty expensive....i sold mine during an injury spell.

I wish someone would me a a system that uses the mylaps transponder on the bike and then I can toss a wireless bluetooth reader beside the track and get lap times sent to my phone for when my son is riding. Mylaps said i would have to buy a whole timing system to that.

Used to use an app on my phone called Motocross GPS lap timer. That was few years ago and I just looked it up and it is still in the play store.

It uses GPS and seemed to be pretty accurate. You have to ride with your phone though so you'll need some sort of arm strap. I think its free so its worth a try. Also you can install on an old smart phone and it will still work.

AIM who makes the karting timers has one for mx. Clips on your bars with a transponder on your fork leg. You put a beacon where you want the finish to be. I used it 15 years ago. Was ok but not great.

I recommend you use LitPro now. Go on eBay abs buy an xgps 160 for $80. Then download litpro app and sign up for subscription $10/month. Worth every penny.
