James is still the fastest american there is .. so he should go imo, Stewart , Grant ( can run Alessi RV speed on his day) and Dungey and you should still win probably

Your gonna need consistency for the Des Nations, so that takes grant out of the picture. If they let Stewart ride with out racing at least one national, which I think is wrong, this is the best team you can possibly have:

Stewart
Short
Dungey

Without Stewart it should look something like this:

Short
Tedesco or Hahn
Dungey or Canard

(It would be big for Honda to have three riders representing the USA there)

Stewart is a must go, despite him becoming fat and only doing laps on his stupid sx-track. With some training he should smoke Cairoli, and we have seen Dungey being able to win over CP, so MX1, and MX2 team USA are solid. Open is a bit troublesome though. Tedesco, Short, Grant or if Ferry can be healed up? You guys need a solid top ten guy that doesn't fuck up if Stew gets a meltdown again.

Doesn't really matter who you choose, you are a top three team nevertheless...

Maybe this recent shit is bad news, but the positive side is that it makes it more interesting.

Im not missing the point of racing. Im just stating the fact that if the US team without Stewart and Villopoto in the squad happen to lose the trophy, then it will be one of the most contentious MXdN result in history. Perhaps unlike your good self, the majority of American fans would never accept it and the victorious team would know deep down they didn't beat the two fastest guys in the world.

But then I guess New Zealand, South Africa, France and Italy have all had to field weakened teams over recent years due to unfortunate injuries too.

Amen to that.

And hypotheticals here 99.9% of the time are spun to the negative.

Course the Brit team will be ready to kick ass.. lol
As far as France goes, Seb Pourcel has just had a serious shoulder surgery and won't be back anytime soon.

Christophe's goal is to go 450 for 2010 and he is said to be at least as fast as his brother (the one who had something for Bubba last year) on it, so he could be a 450 guy but the fastest brothers the MX world has ever seen won't be teaming up for France this time.

The obvious MX2 pick would be Marvin Musquin, the new French sensation (and Factory KTM rider), who completely dominates the MXGP2 and is the world title favorite at this point).

In speed, Marvin is probably somewhere between Christophe Pourcel and, say, Tyla Rattray, right now.

But finding a second 450 r i d e r would be France's goal.

Greg Aranda can be very fast but his f inishes are not in par with his speed.

But who knows, he may have a great day and score the necessary good 5th result that one needs to win DesNations !

Nicolas Aubin has a so-so season so far on his MX2 but is very fast on a 450 for the French Nationals. He has MXDN experience but has not really shined there before, which does'nt mean he could'nt finish at least one strong motyo...

DV12 was on par with those guys but lately has suffered a chronic lack of speed, including at home where he was leading early on. If he regains that speed soon enough, he may be a strong candidate (hte guy has won MXDN in '01 at Namur, after all).
Neither of those have the potential of a healthy Seb Pourcel, though.

But one may even try Boissière who is typically a good 5th result-type of guy, last year he may have lead France to a surprise win, if not for a late flat. He is a 250 guy though, but depending on how looks the track, it may be something smart to try.

Same goes for Gauthier Paulin, current MX2 runner-up (who may be a guy to try on DV's 450, since he is a strong boy?).

In case of injuries, there is a deep reservoir of strong MX2 guys like Steven Frossard, Xavier Boog, Loïc Larrieu, Valentin Teillet, + the leader of the GPMX3, Julien Vanni and the dominant leader of the Europe Youth, Christophe Charlier (who was beating Roczen when Ken was racing the European circuit a month ago).

The French coach, Olivier Robert, has never had as much talent to play with !

Still, Italy may be on top with Cairoli-Philippaert-Guarnieri (who can be a good 5th result guy, Monni and Salvini too).

Belgium with KDD, Desalle and Van Hoorebeck-Roelands / Ramon-Strijbos back?) ? Super strong.

Australia with a combination of Reed- Byrne-Reardon-Metcalfe- Moss ? Tough !

Germany with Nagl-Roczen-Schiffer ? Great outsider !

NZ with Coppins and Townley (lack of top 3rd guy) ??

NL with Calimero -Herlings Eggens (lack of 450 guy?)

GB with Searle - McKenzie - Anstie / Sword (lack of 450 guy - ) ?

SA with Rattray - Swanepoel (lack of 3rd guy, unless GL ?)

Bottom line : the US are a clear favourite only is Stewart is part of the team (but a top contender regardless).

Very good post, only one thing.... Anstie, probably not ready this year, i'd have Anderson on the 2nd 450 and a toss up for the 250 between Searle/Sword and if fit Simpson....

Pichon could always ride for France MX3 he has the speed quicker than all the current 450 guys bar seb A fit Pichon C pourcel on 450s plus the world champ on the 250s? that is a very strong team saying that The two pourcels plus Musquin probably would have been hard to beat even for the USA

I think the USA team should be (as of June 12):
Dungey
Grant
Short

There's NO WAY the USA should any rider that doesn't ride the Nationals. I was thinking they should send who ever they want, but I feel that would be fare to send riders or teams that didn't support the Motocross series, period.

I hope you all feel the same way and we should stick together on this. We should be able to push for the riders that we want.

I glad to see other agree with me. I'm hopping we can can get everyone on this "bandwagon" and keep the Motocross Des Nations, motocross.

I like how you said it's not the "SX Des Nations".
