So who was the oldest to win an AMA National Motocross title? Any title? Will it be Osborne?

Interesting fact brought up in yesterdays telecast. Don't remember hearing an answer.... Who is the oldest rider to win a title?

I think Jeff Ward (500) and Mike Brown (125) both got an outdoor title at age 29. Don't know who the oldest motocross race winner has been. Anyone know?

McGrath won his last supercross title at age 28 I believe. LaRacco the oldest supercross race winner at 33? Or did Justin Brayton surpass that with his Daytona win?

Been very impressed with Osborne this season. Covid series or not, he is straight up beating some incredible talent. Even more impressive historically given his age, turning 31.

The grit and drive late in the race has been a pleasure to watch, including the effort shown while fighting off Tomac in moto 2 yesterday. I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking it would be tough to hold off Tomac. But he did, and is leading the Championship with two races to go. Making a fan of me.

Anyone know the oldest MX race winner and title winners? Been a great season to spectate!

Its gotta be the Junkyard Dog John Dowd. He won the 1998 125 SX west coast title at the age of 33. He podiumed third overall at Southwick in 2009 at age 44. Clearly he's the fastest old fart ever.

Duh... how could have I not remembered Dowd! 98 125SX West title, though he would have been 32 as his birthday isnt until August 10th (1965). No less impressive though, even won a 250SX race that year in Charlotte.

Won Broome-Tioga in NY that august after turning 33 in the 125MX. Also won a number of races indoors and outdoors in 97. Won a few outdoor premier class 250 races at 31 and 32, finishing an impressive 2nd overall.

The Junkyard Dog was on fire in 97 and 98.

Dowd also won a moto in 2000 at 35, another record.

Brayton beat LaRocco's record for oldest SX winner.

Everts won his last MXGP title at 34, and beat Stewart in that epic '06 MXDN at the same age.

Osborne is a heck of a late bloomer. His progress since coming back from Europe has been incredible.

I think premier class is what they were talking about on the broadcast yesterday, because I thought how can a guy like Wedge forget Dowd?

So is it Ward for AMA premier class? Premier class, must be Ward I'd think. When he won the 500 title in 1990, it was still contested by all the top riders including Stanton, Johnson, the O'Show and others. He not only beat Stanton in the 500 class, he finished runner up to Stanton the 250 class that year. Regardless if folks argue the 500 or 250 class was THE premier class.

Speaking of Ward, I think folks sometimes don't give his career the credit deserved. 7 national titles over 14 years against hall of fame riders from three generations spanning 1978-1992. Only three of those years did he not have at least a 3rd place season finish in one class or another. His rookie season in 78 a 7th in 125mx, 79 a 6th in 125mx, and 82 a 4th in 125mx. Every other year he had at least a top 3 finish in one class or another at the end of the season.

The number of folks he raced from different eras, the number of years he raced, and the number of years he was a top contender is mind boggling. Must be an award for that, competitive longevity. I have to admit, during that time I didn't give him the credit he deserved. I was a Hannah, Barnett, Bailey, and Johnson fan then. Looking back, he is one of the greats.

But back to Osborne. This could be his year and what a story his journey has been. Great for fans.

I really do think this moment...

sent Osborne's and Savatgy's careers on new trajectories. Osborne has pretty much been on fire since that day (now has three 250 titles and is on his way to his first 450), and Savatgy can't seem to find his stride (only has one SX win since then). Joey did have that MEC Main Event win in the bag until he handed it to Tomac, which...yeah wasn't the smartest move.

That was probably the best "Title Battle" in the last 20 years.

Definently a remarkable accomplishment, but not a National Championship, it's a Regional Championship.

Ya know, the way that Zach is just "dedicated and genuine"...the way he obviously just loves to race 'any discipline'...the way he takes his family on the road...

What is there to "not like'?

We need more ZachO's.

Yep. I was a huge fan of his in his amateur days (thanks motoplayground magazine) and as soon as he came back to the states I was on board The OG 338 train once again

Dude is just a decent human all around
