Does anyone's kid ever talk big, and then when you get to the track makes an excuse not to ride?

My 3 1/2 yr old begs to ride every day of the week (also rides our backyard stacyc track nearly daily), and then once I get to the track with him and his pw, he comes up with strange excuses to not ride. One time his excuse was "The jumps aren't big enough" haha

I don't want to push him, but it is frustrating to load up, make the drive, help him get dressed, then he is 50/50 on whether he wants to ride. Anyone's kids like that?

So I'm gathering he can't ride the Stacyc at an mx track? I have been wondering that.

Need some advice from dads out there. I have a three year old who has very little interest in riding. I had bought him a new pw50 when he was 1 and by 2 he was able to ride independently with training wheels on and dad just watching from a distance. Then interest fell off. No wreck or anything just didn't want to ride. Bike sat in the garage and collected dust for 6 months before we decided to sell. Now he is getting close to 4 and I would love to have him give it a shot again. Should I be trying something like a Stacyc? He can do a Strider bike but not pedaling on his own yet. Try another dirt bike? Give up and just let him play legos like he wants haha!
Let another kid ride it in front of him having fun and let nature take its course after that, take him to garage
and see if he looks at it, sits on it or asks to ride it, if he doesn't move along

He rides it at the private tracks but not public ones.

That is exactly what we do. I bought 2 stacycs and 2 pws (prepared for little sis who is 2 right now) and let the neighbor kids come over to ride our private spot. They love riding with each other.

Am i the only one that reads stuff like this and wishes i was born into a different family?!?!?!?!? Lmao, i wasn't introduced to bikes until i was like 8 or 9 and instantly fell in love and have been since! I would have loved to had the opportunity sooner, especially nearing 40 now and looking back....

All i can say is don't push it. When my daughter turned 7 she really wanted a bike and loved watching the races with me and my wife. We bought her a crf50 and all the gear and she literally only rode it about 4 times and was done. We sold the 50 and then bought a 70 thinking it might be something she would enjoy again and i just sold that one as well. She is about to turn 14 and dirt bikes are literally probably the last thing on her mind. Obviously boys are different, but i would just let it come to him. If he is around you and the bikes, it will probably just happen....

one of my sons is very competitive. racing bmx this year, and he usually says hes not racing. I say fine but your at least riding practice, for track time. after he does practice, and sees other kids, its wide open. usually beats his older brother.. must be a nerves thing..

Just leave him be for now. See if you can get him interested in anything on 2 wheels.
I’m a very active MSF Dirtbike school coach. Trained at least 150 students last season aged 5 and up. You started him at a very early age, maybe too young. Give him some exposure and go from there. I see a lot of parents pressuring their kids into riding and I always try to make the best out of the situation and provide them with a positive experience but that is not always possible. It has to be organic in my experience.

Get some other kids to ride on your backyard track.

He is 3! He is probably just learning to wipe his own ass.
He doesn't need the pressure of learning to ride a motocross bike also.

Definitely no pressure! Maybe you missed the part about him riding earlier. He is definitely fully capable and has good understanding of the controls. Only looking for insight on igniting interest. It was there now it’s not. That is all. And no he cannot wipe his own butt. However, he was riding a Pw50 shortly after he could walk.

Yeah. I read that part. My post was a bit "tounge in cheek"
I have a 6 years old boy that has had a pw50 in the garage since he was 4. We have been on a few rides, with me on the back doing the controls, and he likes that. But he has probably ridden is about 100 yards by himself.
he likes the idea of owning the bike, but has basically no interest in riding it.
My neighbours daughter has ridden it, and loves it! She asked when she car ride it more.

Sorry I don't have anything more constructive to add. My kid has no interest in riding at the moment.
