It's about time they tried something to slow them down, sounds like more to come as well. I'm all for it, we've lost too many great people already just in the name of racing.

So they are making it safer by limiting the amount of things that connect the rider to the ground..

That is just fucked up... they spend $$$$ and they are trying to save $600 on tyres.. And the have to run the same tyre for hard pack, stones, as they do for the deep sand... what a crock of shit.

limiting tires seems stupid to me for sure. Its cool they are requiring air bags now like motogp-will be great for Alpinestars as I believe they are the only ones with a system for rally so far.

It's not about saving money.

Have you watched Rally enough to understand why the tire limitations should slow them down?

Im sure he has as have I. Fully disagree in every way and limiting tires. Could not imagine trying to Dakar on 6 tires. Dangerous as fuck.

I'm pretty uneducated on the rally stuff, so please excuse my ignorance. Could someone explain the pro's of limiting tire changes to me? The cons are fairly obvious-different terrain, tire wear etc...But as someone who is unfamiliar with these races, I am curious as to how the limited tires will make the racing safer.

It means you can't go as fast because you have to save your tires.

You turn Rally Raid in to a restrictor plate fuel race. All the events have tyre specs so you cant go nuts on what choices you have, but essentially you will have events decided on the time penalties for taking a fresh tyre... of course all the teams could just agree that they all take a penalty and fit them anyway.. How you are supposed to tyre manage with so much terrain change and road work is just nuts. The tyres will have to be like mahogany to last on some of the rocky stuff.. Better road books is the key IMO..

Yes Every Dakar . And all the others that make TV. When its my life on the line, i choose when i put tyres on , not the organisers.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. Seems like a simple concept in theory, but I can see how the negative things people are saying about the rule would probably negate any positives from it.

All they will achieve is to ruin the quality of racing.

Isle of Mann TT...do they need mx tyres to slow them down!
