Today is the end of an Era

"Changing online climate" I think it was referred to as.

For those who don't already know/haven't read/don't understand... Just as digital platforms took over from print media, so are social media platforms over online content. Basically Facebook/Twitter/Instagram rule the roost now, and with this comes less traffic/less need to visit a website. Less traffic = less bargaining power with advertisers = less income.

As someone stated earlier, content creation is a timely, intricate process and when you're not getting paid as much for the work, it becomes less viable. While your 3000 word race report takes 6 hours to delicately write up, edit & proof and publish, someone has already posted the spoiler on social media from their smartphone with a photo from the 2nd tier in the stands. Or, people care less to read a full report when a few words (accessed instantly by checking Facebook) will give them everything they want to know about the race.

Social media has also made every kid with a phone a journalist, so competing with that has become ever difficult.

I believe however that the Vitals, Racer X's and Transworlds, even Vurbs of the online world hold a special place and a real value for core fans who want to know and read more, and this can't be replaced by the social media era.
