Got the forks serviced, with a bit of difficulty due to some material that had been displaced outside of the desired area(see: rocks smash bottom of forks), but they are good now after some love, now I'm working on trying the front wheel after replacing a few spokes and waiting on a new rear rim and spoke set along with a fancy chain guide.

bike is pretty much done for now, just gotta bolt on the lightspeed chain guide setup and then ill be breaking the whole thing in, total cost on the bike was 2300 with bike and parts.

Now I am making plans for a next step with each bike. Debating if I should do a replica build on one or both or something else.

Also I did some videos of the project if anyone cares to watch.

Build updates: we moved into a new house and that's taken my time and money but both bikes are home.
Decided to take the race bike out and after a few minutes a bit of disaster: broken motor mounts, lesson learned is check your motor mount bolts occasionally.

So now the debate is replace with stock units or go carbon fiber mounts, thoughts?

Also I have a surgery that's putting me out for 6 weeks and it's winter so it's time to tear down both bikes to the frame and dig in. The project bike will see the most benefit and the race bike will be getting a new look. Maybe a replica? Not sure yet.

It's getting to the end of the year, which means maintenance. Each bike has had some small issues crop up so for my last few rides before I take time off for surgery I have to do a bit of rob Peter to pay Paul.

I stole the motor mounts back from the race bike along with the forks since the practice bikes started to leak. Also taking the plastic and silencer. This is to update the practice bike with fresher parts but also makes room on the race bike for updates it'd going to be getting during the off season.

I have my carbon material and have stayed cutting it for the 1st mount, got a little delayed though since I just had foot surgery, so it'll be another week or so before I can get back to it, also have some big things getting lined up for suspension.

Well I got the mounts done. They're not perfect by any means but a solid first attempt, they also seem thinner than expected. I'll post first ride results when it's back together. while I've been down for some foot surgery I threw new forks in the mix, waiting on the steering stop from trick eng and gotta get triple clamps, any offset recommendations?

So being that I’m considering adding a possible 2005+ Kx125 to my project list, I’ve got to ask:

How hard bad is availability of engine and chassis parts for these bikes?

athena makes a kit if you need a new cylinder,
swingarms are impossible to find(watch for the chain wearing into it).
Pro circuit makes exhausts still but thats about it from them(Check out replica builds, PC parts like linkage come at a premium if you can find them)
Things like cases im not sure, transmissions i have seen on Ebay but didnt look close at them so a risk there.
Subframes are new only if you can find them, id try to get one repaired before buying a new one
overall though, its not super bad, but not great since this generetion of the kx125 was only 2 years and you cant share parts with the 2003, and those dont share parts with anything before then either.( frames are different, they changed the linkage design and mounting locations in 2004 along with the exhaust)

Nothing like a bit of foot surgery and some teaser pics, practice bike just needs the side plates put back on and race bike is waiting on some last pieces of hardware, good thing this fresh snow is putting riding on hold, be a shame to have good weather and not be able to ride right?

Race bike is back together sans drivetrain and silencer, debating the regular r304 and the carbon r304, anyone know the durability for the carbon model?

I had surgery back in mid december, was just cleared to try riding, still have pain through my toes from the muscles and tendons. Was my most painful surgery to date(have had 2x knee, and 1x wrist). If you do it, take a week or two off, dont try to rush back even though your allowed to be weight bearing. Physical therapy is a must for a good recovery. The foot is super sensitive and blood flow isnt great. I only did it because it had developed to being painful everyday walking with a slight limp. If your foot doesnt hurt, id say you probably shouldnt do it. **NOT A DOCTOR, NOT MEDICAL ADVICE**

Got the practice bike home and immediately tore out back down to inspect cable routing and throttle cable condition, yup, needs a new one

Also, pro tip, next time your rear wheel is off, remove the adjust screws too and grease them, I've seized one on the practice bike and had a near seize on the race bike. Little grease goes a long way.

How did you bend the carbon or did you make it yourself? Maybe I’m seeing things but it looks like there is a slight bend to the material? Not sure what your cutting and drilling with but I get some clean cuts with a glass diamond blade and I drill it with diamond as well. If you drill it with a wood or metal bit try drilling all the way through with the drill on reverse and keep a cup of water close by and get it wet while cutting and drilling.

I made a mold to create the bend, carbon can't be bent. The picture of them in my hand was before I cleaned them up.

That’s what I thought. When you said you had carbon material it sounded like you had a sheet and just cut it. I was like how did he bend it, thought you had a trick I needed to know. Build looks great

Alright so update:
Practice bike is back together, new throttle cable feels a lot better. So now I have a bike to ride during the week, for the time being, btw Im considering trades for a 250f, 2 125s is more than i need and id like to have a serious race bike as well as my fun race bike.

Race bike has a full tank ran through it on a sandy, whooped out turn track and so far the mounts have held up well. Only problem now is I need to move my bars to the back position so I can reach the fork clickers so I can adjust them

Im considering making more motor mounts, but I have to be able to justify the time and costs, let me know if interested.
