2006 KX250 Stock Build(FOR NOW)

Edited Date/Time 4/13/2020 9:39pm
Got a new to me bike today and I’m stoked. Haven’t had a bike in a few years due to having kids and just not having time for it.

Bike still has original tires and chain/sprockets I believe. Runs very well. I’m planning on riding it with small changes here and there for now but eventually I want to do a full build.

I already made a few small changes by putting some plastics from my 2012 450 I had and taking the bark busters off. When I get time I’m going to swap out the oversized gas tank for a stock one.

Any tips/tricks or good mods for these bikes?

Got a little time to clean it up today and do a little work on it. I put the stock gas tank back on it, peeled the backgrounds off the side plates, cleaned the air filter, put on fresh grips, and washed it up as good as I could get it for now. Definantly looks way better already IMO.

Sometime this week I’ll go over everything and make sure everything is tight, change the oil and rear tire and start setting everything up. I probably won’t buy much for it for awhile. I’d like to get a good feel for it first

I was very surprised when I test rode the bike how snappy it was. It’s been a lot of years since I last rode a 250 2t.

Check the ignition pickup air gap and set it to the high end of the tolerance range, that helps with some pinging.

I put 2010 450 forks on mine, and Active-Ride shortened my shock internally (And valved and sprung both ends for me) the bike handles amazingly.

Got a few small parts tonight and had the time so I got to work while I could.

I put an hour meter with the mount on. This is the first time I have ever put an hour meter on a bike and now that I think back I must have been crazy not to before. Seems like a must have item.

I’ve always like handguards so I put a set on. Not sure what it is exactly about them but something just draws me to a nice looking set.

When I brought the bike home and got to work cleaning it up, I went to swap out the oversize gas tank for the stock one and noticed the gas tank strap was missing. So I bought a brand new oem one. I also put a brand new tusk air filter in tonight. I’ve been very impressed with tusk products in the past and their air filters didn’t disappoint. I was very surprised at how well the filters seem to be made for the price.

Lastly, I swapped out the stock dry rotted rear tire for a lightly used tire my dad had laying around. It’s a Dunlop mx3s. The front tire seems to be in a lot better shape but I’ll probably order a brand new set of tires after a few rides. I just wanted something on it for now that’s not falling apart.

Does anyone know where or if I could get a white rear fender for this bike? I’ve been looking but no luck anywhere. All I can find is oem green/white or all black.

Does anyone know if linkage from a 2009-2016 kx250f would fit on the last gen kx250? Found a deal on a lowering link but I can’t find any info that would tell me if it would fit

Thanks, I did actually see that. I found a ride engineering link for 60+shipping on eBay that’s the only reason I wasn’t going to go with pro circuit. But I had the guy measure it and the 4 strokes are wider.

Looks like I may have to put an order with pro circuit if I want one

Nice pick up man! That thing is super clean. But yeah I would definitely grab one up from Pro Circuit while they have them in stock. They are a hot commodity. I waited for over 4 months for mine while it was on back order!

Decided to get me some new bars that fit my style after riding the bike at my friends track. Also put on a tusk bearing throttle tube since the stock one had the end cut off for the bark busters that used to be on it.

I also decided to try some bigger footpegs. I’ve never changed out stock footpegs before but I always wanted to try bigger ones. These are flo footpegs for Kawi 250/450. They mounted right up but there was a tiny spot that they hung up on the frame. I took a grinder and lightly removed about 1/16 inch of material off and they fit perfect now.

Here they are on the bike.

I also got some bling from outlaw racing on eBay. I went with green because I want a simple but eye catching look. I got front/rear brake caps, axle blocks, front/rear wheel spacers and a rear brake clevis all for under $90. Everything looks really nice except the rear wheel spacers. They have a lighter color than the rest but they ended up giving them to me for free since the color was off.
