Excellent! The carb in the case cover was interesting.

My Dad bought me 72 G5 100 in 74 for 50$ locked up. He let me help him tear down the engine to put a rod and piston in it. Took off the lights put on number plate knobby Cheng shin tires and a tm125 rear fender. I remember him changing the rotary valve in the case from a fiber i think to an aluminum one with a bigger cutout. Rode the wheels off that bike for 2 years. Great memories with my Dad

Cool. Back in Jr HS a guy I rode with had one. We had a lot of woods and dirt paths around our HS and the school was built on a hill which had some cool jumps. Anyway riding by football practice one day the coach threw a football at the guy on the KE100 and it got pulled in between the rear tire and fender. Locked the back wheel right up. Great times!

As a kid I used to hear stories in my neighborhood about a guy that had a KE 100 that they would bump start by pushing it backwards resulting in the engine running in reverse. Supposedly they would do it to play tricks on kids asking them if they wanted to ride the bike and surprising them when it went backwards when they dumped the clutch.

I always wondered if it was true. Was it a BS story or something with the rotary valve that made it possible?

I know that two stroke engines will run in reverse as evidenced by the engine reverse used in snowmobiles instead of a gearbox to go backwards.

I have heard that too but never seen it. A fried told me when he was in the merchant marines decades ago the ships had these very slow turning diesels. They would disconnect the prop shaft basically and reverse the direction of the engine to back up the boat.

I have heard that about diesels also. My uncle Lee told about an old Massey Ferguson tractor that he was lugging up a hill in too high a gear that stalled and restarted running in reverse as it rolled backwards.

Yes, some bikes used to be able to do that. Can't recall what was changed to prevent it but yes, back when, on some bikes, it was a real thing.

The rotary valve worked quite well in the 74 KX125. If only Kawasaki had that bike out 6 months earlier, that little Elsinore may not have been so damn dominant.

That IG account took that from Hagerty, they do tons of timelapse engine rebuilds, they just happened to to do who bike and not just the engine rebuild. Search Hagerty on utube if you enjoy
