Thank you guys!

Luckily my pain management has been pretty good. I was on Percocet only for a day or two after I got home and haven't needed them since. I really don't have any pain, which sounds like I am lucky. For me it's the non-stop tingling and "dead foot" feeling from the nerves. More of a nuisance than pain.

I'm coming to the realization that it's very likely I won't be 100% again. No more triathlons and long distance runs. Which is OK by me, that stuff wasn't a passion of mine. As long as I can surf and ride, i'll be OK

To make matters worse my wife is 8 months pregnant with our first child and I just PRAY that when our daughter is here I am somewhat able to help with the baby.

I found that FB group earlier today and requested to join. I'm sure I'll get a lot of help and support there.
Also, I feel your pain. My boy was only 10 months old when this happened. And not only did I break both legs, I also broke my left wrist. So I had one functioning limb for 3 months. It was tough, but just stay positive. It’s easy to fall into depression during rough injuries and something I’ve dealt with. Hope everything goes well.

Stay positive and set small goals. So damn easy to slip into the woe is me mode and to me that was the hardest part. I’m 3 yrs post and am damn thankful to have what I have ROM wise. Not ideal but functional, as in if you saw me you would never know. I can jog a couple miles, try not to. Can jump out the back of a pickup but funniest thing is I can’t purposely stomp my foot. Kankle is damn near gone, even on long days of being on my feet Now, on days of riding I don’t even know it’s there and believe it or not I still feel like I am getting better with range of motion and full strength. It’s a long road guys, but don’t give up, it gets better, little tiny bits at a time.

Thinking of possible getting some hardware removed, there is a screw head that is in a terrible place and after my last Moto I cannot wait to get the boot off. 1 damn screw head right on the inner ankle bone.

Oh one more thing, get compression socks and as soon as you can take putting them on, wear them religiously. Keeps the swelling down and you’ll find that is where most issues come from is the annoying swelling. Keep it skinny and keep it moving. (Yes the calf high compression socks for diabetes like at cvs or Walgreens) there are different compression ratings so you’ll have to find what works best for you. The tighter the better ,b you can get too tight and that gets uncomfortable. Try everything it helps mentally to try things and see/figure the outcome. Positivity!

Good luck dudes. Keep posting!

The only thing I can say is keep pushing. I ended up with a type 5 tibial Plateau Fracture. I shattered it in over 60 pieces it took 14 screws and three plates to stabilize it during surgery. I wish I could say it was easy but I can’t. For me it’s been a three-year struggle to get back physically and mentally where I was before the injury. If you have a goal in mind and keep working towards it every day you will eventually get there it may not be the same but it’ll be good enough. The one thing I wish I had done was paid more attention to my mental health that’s as important as the physical rehab. If you get down on yourself and negative it will only delay your healing and probably not allow you to get back as much as you could. Range of motion is important but I think your determination to keep going will drive your recovery. I wish when I was laid up for three months I had anyone that I could’ve asked questions to I didn’t know about this site at the time. So if you want any tips or help feel free to contact me. I can tell you that anything is possible I was cutting firewood and milling lumber prior to my injury. I thought I would never be able to do the things I did before the injury but I have been able to get back to lifting and milling so you can do anything you want. Of course there is pain but you push through that and get used to it.
