Hello vital Mx community!
I am in search of a particular issue of Dirt Bike magazine. I believe it is December of ‘78.
I am interested in this issue because it contains the winners of their trivia contest. My dad won a brand spankin’ new ’79 RM250 by placing third, and his name is published within its pages.
My dad is nearing 80 now, and he has only a vague recollection of this ever happening. I’m hoping this magazine may jog his memory, and hopefully we can have a fun conversation about it.
If anyone out there has a readable copy of this magazine, I would be happy to compensate you pretty well for it as it would mean a lot to me.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the tip. I’ve actually been keeping an eye on eBay for a while now, and it always seems to elude me. I’m’ sure it will come up again eventually, I was just hoping to find a shortcut here.😁
I don’t recall for sure what was on the cover, I think maybe a race-to-the first-turn type shot? No idea what race it was, and frankly not 100% sure I’m even close.
Sorry I’m not more help.
Nope
Let me see if I can convert it to something else

That’s my pop, Paul Magnusson.
Really awesome to see that after so many years.
If I can convince him to get in front of a computer screen, I’m sure it will take him back.
Would you be interested in selling your hard copy, by chance?
Thanks again! 👍👍
So I guess the real question is..........Does you pops still have the RM!!!!!
Have a good one
I’ll keep an eye out, or maybe someone else will offer one here.
I really appreciate your posting the images, though.
Sadly, he does not still own the RM. in fact, he never rode it once, and sold it “as new” immediately after receiving it. He was never a 2-stroke guy (pitchforks down, please), and was much happier with the C&J XL350 he owned at the time.
Thanks for your response.
If you are able to locate a copy you would be willing to part with, I’d be stoked to purchase it from you, just name your price.
Cheers!
My only concern is I have just one copy. Of course I have 3 copies of Nov. 78 as well as 2 copies of Oct. 78... Sheesh! I have pretty much every Dirt Bike magazine starting from the beginning through 2006, as well MXA, Super Motocross, Dirt Rider and many others. Excuse me going off on a tangent, but you get my point.
Oh and if the bike pictured with your father is the bike he won, that is the 1978 1/2 model. (which I owned at that time)
You and I are practically neighbors Fullerton/Huntington Beach. I would think the magazine is more valuable to you and your father than it is to me. So it may be a bit steep but, I am willing to part with the mag for say $50.00. You can personally come and pick it up as well. Let me know what you think. Jim
I’ll take it!
Thanks so much for your offer, it will definitely be appreciated by both myself and my dad.
I’ll figure out this PM thing and shoot you my number. Maybe we can meet this weekend?
That actually isn’t him in the picture, nor is it the actual bike he ended up with. I am guessing the ‘79 model wasn’t available by the time they shot that pic, so a 78 1/2 was used.
The bike he won was definitely a ‘79. It had blue striped graphics on the tank & side panels, which were already beginning to fall off by the time he got it home from the dealership, as I recall.
Thanks again! We’ll talk soon.
Looking forward to meeting you.
The magazine has been found!
Big thanks to everyone who helped me out here, especially jimmie who was kind enough to part with his only copy.
Jim, it was great to meet you this weekend and I really appreciate your time. Thanks for the mag, and for letting us thumb through your amazing collection. It was a cool blast from the past!
Really looking forward to sharing this with my pop. I’m sure he will get a kick out of it.
