The Last Time ET3 Wore the Red Plate in SX

I spent some time in the AMA PDF archive

Last Time Eli has the points lead in SX was just over 1 year ago on Feb 2, 2019 after San Diego.

1st. Tomac with 106
Two way tie for 2nd - Marv and Kroc with 102
3rd was Webb with 98

Tomacs results the rest of the series, while not as catastrophic as 2018, were fairly inconsistent:

Round 6 Minnesota - ET3 finished 6th and dropped to 3rd in the points
Round 7 Texas - ET3 wheels come off and he finished 12th and dropped to 4th in the points 16 behind Webb
Round 8 Detroit - ET3 wins and Webb comes in 2nd
Round 9 Atlanta - Webb won. ET3 stayed 4th in points 22 back of Webb
Round 10 Daytona – ET3 1st and Webb 2nd. Tomac jumped to 2nd in ponts 19 back
Round 13 Houston - ET3 comes in 4th and Webb wins. Eli 3rd in points 26 back from Webb
Round 14 Nashville - ET3 wins and moved up to 2nd in the ponts 21 back of Webb
Round 15 Denver - ET3 wins, Webb 2nd
Round 16 New Jersey - Webb wins again while ET3 finishes 3rd.
Round 17 Las Vegas, ET3 Wins and Webb finishes 3rd.

Tomac 2nd at series end 18 points behind Champion Webb

No matter who you are rooting for to win this year, the racing so far as been awesome. Personally I want to see Tomac get a SX championship before he retires. The mental approach to racing we saw from Tomac outdoors last season and so far SX this year makes me think it's his year!

Webb Won it all last year with consistency on the nights he wasn't the fastest guy on the track and this is what Eli has shown us through 7 rounds this year.

Hoping for all the racers safety and more great racing

I think Eli is doing a good job so far, he needs to do what webb did last yr and stay on the podium on his off nights.

I also hope he wins it this year to get over the hump. He seems like he has more of a sense of urgency this yr and has been a little more aggressive passing some riders, not in a dirty way but to get moving quicker. Im liking what im seeing so far.

You are probably correct. It looks like it could be Eli's year. I guess that is why they race because anything can happen but it certainly seems like Eli is where he should be. He seems to have improved his starts this year, which in the past seemed to be his greatest weakness.

How many times will he have a bad nigh the remaining 10 roundst? if it's only 1 time he will probably still win the No. 1 plate. in 2018 he scored 1 point each at 2 rounds. 0 points at 1 round and 10 points or less at 2 rounds and he still came in 3rd in the series I think 26 back of the champ. Eli has arguably been the most skilled of all the rider the last 3 years.

He sure keeps it interesting. On a side note, I hope Kroc starts running up front soon

Next week will be a big test for Eli in my opinion. He's never had sole possession of the red plate for longer than one race. 2017 he shared it with Dungey at SLC and won, then imploded the next week. And obviously only had it for the one race last year.

I would like to think his statements last night about how they have their settings dialed in and no more searching will bring confidence and stability to his riding. He seems much more calm on the bike and never really looks like he is going crazy ball's nearly as much. Cooper is his only threat and they both can basically disregard anyone else at this point and only focus on each other.

It will be an entertaining rest of the series barring injuries or mechanicals. I'm hopeful and excited every week for Saturday's.

Talk about settings means nothing to me. If a rider has a good night then they say their settings are all dialed. If they have a bad night, it was because they went the wrong way with settings. Never because they just had a bad night.

He got a great start this week, but that is often his weakpoint. Multiple gate drops with the triple crown format will be a test for him.

he's been one of the better riders at the triple crown races going back to when they started.
