I've been looking at all the nice shops you guys have and planning for mine. It's no garage but it'll do for now.
I have a 16x16 8ft ceiling, wood floor, metal frame shed with power. I'm going to build into my bike shop. I have laid out the following layouts in AutoCad drawing everything to size. And before you say it, yes insulation, walls, ac, will be put in to make it a real work space.
Big items the shed will be:
Yz250
TTR125
Fuel jugs
Gear cabinet
Parts cabinet
7ft tall storage shelves
Bar table and chairs
Work bench with tool box
Parts washer
Air compressor
Air reel
Electric reel
TV
And other items such as brooms, fans, ratchet straps, stands etc.
Also plan on having things such as wheel truing stand, tire changing stand, small arbor press, and engine stand but those I can hide away on shelves.
I'm thinking most of the time I will have only one bike in here turned opposite of what is drawn, this gives more space around the bike.
The last layout is getting my attention because it offers room for one more tall shelf.
If I combine my 2 work benches on one side I get 16ft or work space, if I spit them up I get 14'6". However I've learned in the past if there are 2 people working it's good to have separate work space. I also like the idea of the 2 tall cabinets closing in the work area of the long bench.
For those who have shops would you prefer maximum counter space or functionality of the counter space?
I plan on making the wall with the tv a pallet wall, its opposite from the table so when I'm watching races in here I'll be looking across my bikes at a nice view. Also a nice background for pictures. I will probably do the rest in plywood painted grey or grey and white along with the floor. I also want to do correlated metal for the ceiling.
The only thing I plan to build is a work bench that houses an air compressor, air and electric reel, parts washer, and trash can possibly with space left open for stands or something. The parts washer will have counter top over it that flips up. Everything other than some wall shelves will be free standing so that I can take them with me if I move or build something else.

So please give me your input as to which way you think works best or things you have done or wish you did in your own shop.

Another thing you can do is having a work bay and a storage bay. So having your tools and other resources easy to get to from that one working bay. I have one working bay in my small space that is only a 180 degree turn from 99% of what I need to work on a bike. My 2 cents.
Originally I had the ttr in a storage spot off the mat and room for 2 bikes on the mat even though I only have 1. But as I added some extra storage I lost the room to keep the ttr off the mat.
Fire extinguisher on the left side of door with fuel so it's easy to get at coming in or running out, and to remove in the case of fire.
Move the bike areas to the left to make easier to get in and out and leave the right wall bare for more room around bikes or maybe overhead cupboards along there to suit your needs and budget. RB can is cool but waste of space. You need to maximize what little you got.
Get a roll cabinet for your toolbox too so your not wasting good bench space. Bench space is good. And add a back wall to benches so your stuff doesn't roll off between wall and bench.
On back wall, leave that cabinet on RH end and put roll cabinet toolbox at left so it's easier to get at from the door. Build a bench between with cupboards under and overhead cupboards.
Trash can under a bench to save space.
Overhead cupboards over benches to utilize that dead space more efficiently and for work and storage.
Look out for old kitchens going cheap or free for the cabinetry, cupboards and even benches.

I also plan on putting all my track stuff such as straps, chairs, packed gear bag at the door so it's minimal distance easy load and unload for early morning/late nights
Thought today about building in a receiver to my work bench for things like buffer or engine stand that can be shelved when not in use. That way I'm not dedicating counter top space.
The shoe organizer worked out great, they are cheap too.
