Finally got the 83 Maico finished , thanks to Bill Eyler at Eastcoast Maico, Lynn Shoup at Rage Racing, Sam and John at John Astleford Company and my long time riding buddy Mark "Coolhand" Booth for the "donor" parts to complete the project! New "euro" tank and side panel graphics are coming from UK but couldnt wait to take some pictures!!

Very nice machine. Congrats on getting it done! I had a 490 of that same year. Power was unbelievable.

I hope you have better luck keeping the tank graphics on yours. The perforated ones might do better that the stock ones I bought.

Gotta love a vintage Maico.

Good looking YZ number plate!

Cool bike! I always liked the look of those sidepanels.

Is this bike going to replace the 81 490? Maybe the 83 honda 480? You would look real nice on a honda.

motogeeze has a talent for riding not so good bikes really fast. He has been wearing me out on inferior equipment since 79.
Good job Geeze. i am hoping to make the Monster this weekend.

Ahahahaha, thanks for the kind comments Larry, Im lookin forward to riding it this weekend so hope to see you there! Cant believe you considered the WMX 500 Cagiva "inferior" equipment tho!
Mike, Ive got perforated tank graphics on my 81 and they've lasted for several years of hard use so hopefully these new ones hold up as well. Definitely a problem with the non perforated ones not allowing the gas fumes to breathe through and coming unglued.
Yeah I knew going in it wasnt exactly a rocket ship so some super secret cylinder mods and a little head work occured and honestly I'm quite suprised at how well it barks! Still very euroish type power but it pulls hard and smooth although certainly not in the class with the mighty 490's. "Hey Im happy with it and it should well hold its on among the" Im not as fast as I once was but Im as fast once as I ever was" crowd !I

Good eye trick 121 on the yz number plate, its what I had in the shed o parts to put on it and it kinda works so yay . Probably will get the proper one later on for it although Id love to find one of the old Preston Petty perforated ones like I had on my bike back then.

Alien, the 81 490 is absolutely irreplaceable and while the 480 has been a lot of fun and is a great machine in its own right , it probably will find a new home as I hope to add a 83 or 84 490 to the stable eventually.
