The casual flagman- Osborne's crash

Been trying to locate video, but not having any luck.

Anyone notice the second flagman at Osborne's off-track excursion? He was outside the concrete lane, leaning on a barrier when the crash happened. Apparently he was actually holding the barrier up and keeping it from collapsing onto the track as he never left his post, but he did wave his flag. About 15 ft. outside the track. Well down-track from the actual crash site.

I hope the flag crew's round 1 jitters get worked out quickly.

Wtf do people like you do, stay up until 10 am the morning after a race rewatching in slow motion to find stuff to nitpick and bitch about?

Hell, you aren't even any good at bitching.

No picture or video of the incident.

Consider an online course in "how to feel significant through trivial bitching".

Be sure and critique the course.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I was laughing so hard as osbourne and his bike are catapulting towards him and he just casually raises the flag totally unbothered

Hilarious response! I thought that ^^^^^^^^^^ was funny as shit. The whole thing is funny if you saw the guy sitting when the crash happened. I was thinking.......that’s what the new strains of legal weed In California will do to ya. there were a couple of flaggers that looked like they ate the wrong potency or something. There was even a guy resting with a sleeping bag, nightlight, and a book. Stop it at 7:14. Just kidding. Ricky Gervais has made it ok to laugh at everyone!

Exactly. Just as he is supposed to do.
And, he was like “it’s casual.”

well the habit of getting "volunteers" to flag a pro event is pretty stupid.

supposed to be a "pro" premier event, maybe protecting a downed rider is the likely one of the most important jobs.

so maybe it would be a good idea to train, hire, and maintain a "pro" flagger staff.

just a thought. and if that process has changed well i don't pay much attention to the process...................some more enlightened folks in here can correct me.

From the one angle, I thought he was headed to destination fucked. Osborne’s bike was coming at him and he was just like “Concession line looks short now, so do I want to go get some pizza or maybe just take a nap? Meh, doesn’t really matter.”

Having flagged many SX events, the instruction before the races is pretty much on point. Unfortunately, as with all jobs, not every employee does a good job, all the time. For many years, flaggers didn't get paid. That has changed recently but doesn't always change the quality. For what it's worth, there are local flaggers and a group of Feld flag and track workers. Many of the better flaggers have flagged for many years. There are newbs every year and it takes a bit to get used to the speed, size of track obstacles and how quickly it can go south. There is never an excuse when you fail to pay attention.

The flag man did nothing wrong.
You don’t flag AFTER the incident, you flag BEFORE the incident.
The bike was 20’ up track with 2 other flaggers doing their job properly.
Warning the riders BEFORE they get there.
