Marvin should prepare outdoors by racing MXGP

If surgery healing timing allows, I think Marvin should come here and race the first few MXGP races.
This could vastly help to get back to full speed and properly set the bike for motocross, gaining an advantage over the guys who have to focus on SX, so that coming Hangtown he could have at least five strong racing weekends.
Finance and logistics shouldn't be a problem for him and the team, especially with Prado missing the first rounds and leaving an open spot under the De Carli awning.
I don't think it makes sense to race a few SX dates just to keep used to it for 2021, and fearing an injury while racing MXGP is not relevant as he got injured while just training.
Additionally, I'd be delighted to see him racing Herlings, Cairoli, Gajser & Co.

You're right!! It could give him a good head start going in to Hangtown. Especially if Tomac is occupied in a tight SX championship battle, he won't want to turn his head and start prepping hard for outdoors.

Marvin to MXGP until May would be awesome!

Are either of you doctors, trainers, or physical therapists?

Having just gone through a knee surgery I couldn’t imagine him wanting to do anything but insuring he is 100% healed for Hangtown. Would be to hard to win a championship with the current class with a knee that is still giving problems. And I would also assume that while gate drops and running overseas would be great preparation, I would argue that being comfortable at home with Aldons program would be more beneficial.

It would be cool to see though.

Seems like that would be their domain (along with team management) to decide. If he’s unavailable for the whole SX season (per KTM’s announcement), I’m not sure how that includes participating in MXGP events.

We all doubt it, but you can’t rule out the possibility that one of ‘em could have stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Sorry, I didn’t expect my thoughts to have legal value.
I imagined this place was intended for chatting.

Unless he has some miraculous recovery time, I can't see him on a bike until March and not anywhere near "race pace" until April, at the earliest. At that point, you're only 6 weeks out until Hangtown.

While a cool idea, I can't see the timeline working out.

And "miraculous recovery times" happen for 20 year old athletes, not 30 year old athletes.

So going to race a series that he isn't paid to race, to further increase the risk of injury and on tracks that is nothing like what he's going to race at the nationals?

I doubt the reward of some gate drops and "race-shape" is worth all that.

30 year old athletes with help from Red Bull probably recovers quicker than 18 year old me with help from Olde English 800 ...

I'd imagine neither are a likely candidate for a "miraculous recovery time"

I don’t see racing the GP’s helping him setup his US bike at all...

For a man who makes a living from this forum, you sure do seem to like to discourage people from talking. I don't get it..

Why? Sure he won't be riding a Euro spec bike, he'd ride a US spec one.

You could argue the tracks are a bit different, but you could say the same about the practice tracks he'd be riding in the US, so..

I love it when people talk. I also love a smidge of common sense. Wink

Hey, it he did catch a round over there? Great! But I’d also be surprised to see it. But I’d also be happily surprised.

All I wanted for Christmas was a...new race season.

It was back-ordered at Amazon, but should arrive Saturday morning.

Quality over quantity doesn't seem like it's asking too much.

Nothing wrong with olds mates comments about marv having a tune up race. Thats the whole point of these forums is to discuss things, maybe its time to swap out some of the disguntled moderators for a fresher bunch?
