Just got home from LL....

It was our first time. Weather was awesome, track was gnarly!! We trained for several weeks in advance and as much as school would allow throughout the year but I feel like as a "privateer" who attends "normal school," we don't have a chance (to make it into top 10 at LL) Even some of the super fast kids we race with, who win regionals had a hard time making it there. I'm not deterred whatsoever. This sport has given us so many memories and time together....and we're not here for a participation trophy nor do we think our son is the next Tomac. Not really sure my point in making this post but would love some other parents' input on their thoughts about the enormous playing field.

Glad to hear your positive thoughts. I skimmed by in area but didn’t go to regional later to find out 4 of the 6 that beat me in 30+ made it to the ranch. I’ll be at it again next year! Bucket list item.

I think all you can expect for this sport is memories and good times.

Keep in mind these training facility kids aren’t winning any championships in the big leagues.

You could home school them and have them ride everyday and they will get better no doubt but if they don't have the true talent it ain't gonna matter. No one ever started racing to make money or get rich so race for the real reasons to race and you don't have to try for LLs every year either.

Wow! Definitely go for it next year! My husband is vet 30+? (Hes 40!) and would love to try but i just feel like one racer is enough😳 Good luck!

I agree. We hear of kids spending multiple seasons living at training facilities and don't make it. But then we go for a few weeks and I'm the one considering making the big move to full time, not the boy!!

Yes pro's are pro's for a reason and the few really fast "elite" pro's are that way for a reason as well.

And still you might get 35th because everyone is fast down there....no shame in that.

My brother went 24-16-20. It’s not easy!! But we had a blast.

Never know what's gonna happen down there..

Keep doing it for fun as long as finances allow.

My best memories as a kid are from big races and deer hunting.

My son went to public schools, graduated high school and now in College. He has been to LL 8 years. Prior to this year his best finishes were 2 12th places in the B class last year. This year he got 20th in 250 Pro sport and 6th in College 18-24. So a top 10 can be done.
He worked his but off this summer and was really disappointed he did not make the podium.
We really enjoyed our time at LL!

A 20th in pro sport is nothing to bat an eye at! Awesome finishes! You must be very proud. Everyone in this thread with a child who made it, congratulations. Making it to the ranch is incredible.
