I'm basically the same size as you. Bike set up is key. I started Moto later (mid 20's) and age was more of a hindrance than size. If you start doing well, the little guys will say it's just because you get better traction. 😂 A negative is that when you hit the ground the laws of physics will rear their ugly head.

Those are good and realistic aspirations. Just some advice. When you hear someone come up on you fast, just move out of the way. I can’t tell you how many people getting lapped won’t move when us pro/A riders come up from behind. We are super thankful when the guys getting lapped just move. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve had to “move” lappers out of the way though.

Not a good idea IMO. Stay in your line, fast guys will always find a way around you. Beginners changing line at the last moment when someone behind is ready to pass is recipe for catastrophe.

you sir are an asshole for moving people out of the way... unless you were there for 10 seconds following closely.. if you are hauling the mail and going substantially faster.. it is your responsibility to find a way around or slow down...

im just thankful you live in Pennsylvania... you would make the Socal motocross scene a crash fest worse than it already is...

go listen to Keefer and Travis Preston on Keefer's podcast.. get some etiquette bro...

I've never raced a hare scramble but have ridden plenty of single track trails, and it would seem to me that motocross etiquette and single track etiquette would be quite different. On a moto track, I'm not holding up a faster guy by simply riding and holding my line, and moving over is often unsafe. That may not be true in a different kind of racing. My point being that it's not obvious that agn5009 is an asshole.

Like I tell my kids” can’t fail if you don’t try so stay home and play video games” just a joke. I like to practice HS by letting my bike fall over in yard and pick it up like s 100 times, feels like a real tough HS race to me lol
But really start with just not getting last and having fun. You could be super fast but if you don’t have endurance and fall over a lot your WILL be exhausted. And just build from there. Fun racing for sure.
