I got rid of my downhill bike about a year ago. Now mostly enduro and a lot of freeride and xc. I still ride the steep and rough stuff a decent amount, but I do it on the trail bike or enduro bike.

I do not possess the testicular fortitude of you gentlemen to do this.

Do any of you guys run your MX helmets when you do downhill? The weight doesn’t bother me if that’s the only issue guys have.
I run my moto helmet, but when peddling uphill I don’t get the ventilation needed at a high heart rate and struggle to catch my breath. Any other time is not an issue.

I did Mammoth last year after the moto race and there is quite a bit of uphill sections to go from one side of the mountain to the other and I struggled.

I’ve been renting bikes cause I haven’t justified spending $5-10K on a downhill bike that I will use 3-5 times a year. But it’s a lot of fun.

How many of you can jump almost anything on the national circuit yet get scared of a 10ft table on a mountain bike?

I am definitely more comfortable jumping a motocross bike than a downhill mountain bike. How the forks compress and there’s no power to pull you up the lip sends me into a front end low jump a lot of times. On a BMX bike with rigid forks I never have that issue.

On a dirt bike for the most part you power through the jump, on a mountain bike you are just trying to keep your momentum and pump the transitions.

I’d fall into that category.

That’s what I’d be doing too. I can’t justify even $2k on a mountain bike. Lol

Good to know I won’t look like a total Spode with my moto helmet 😂
