So I’m currently resting and waiting for PT on May 2nd I shatter my hip and pelvis and elbow long story short pine trees hurt. My biggest fear is being able to ride again. I understand I won’t be riding for the next year. Is there anyone who has had similar injuries and still rides and if so what has been like if you’ve gone done

RV2 broke his ass and he still rides. Just recover and listen to your doctor, good luck.

I've never had an injury that bad but keep up with the physical therapy. It can make a world of difference.

Just follow what your doctors and therapists said. Focus on getting sports medicine doctors and therapists if you havent already. thats what i did for the injury i just had and my ortho surgeon was shocked at how well i healed and all that jazz. They understand the need to return to activity better.

Damn. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. It sucks. I’ve been in a similar situation. Last September I had a good get off and broke my pelvis/tail bone into 5 pieces along with breaking 3 vertebrates.
I went to rehab 2 times a week for months and worked hard on mobility and getting strength back. I rode again in 5 months. Listen to your body!

Im 25, so yea you should be good dude. The worst part is getting through the first few months. Everything ramps up positively once you start moving around your house.

I know your x-ray well, mine looks the same! Femur pushed through the pelvis, 11 pins, 2 plates. 12 weeks on non weight bearing crutches. Back on the bicycle right at 12 weeks. Started with small rides, couldn't do back to back days for 2 to 3 months because of soreness. Within 6 months I had pretty good strength, not much lateral stability. I worked and worked and worked the PT. At 1 year i jumped back on a dirt bike, rode 4 or 5 small moto's. I was not ready yet. I waited another year and rode again, better but not great. 6 more months, rode again and I was happy with how I felt.
I bought a new 450 and even raced again. My riding now has me sticking around 85%, knowing i need to stay off the ground.
I limped for a year. The soft tissue damage in the joint was absolutely the most difficult part! That's where the pain was coming from, but it eventually healed up pretty good. I'd say i'm 95% recovered. I'll take it!

Let me know if I can answer and questions for you.

PT, PT. And more PT. Do everything they say...be copious. If you want to ride again, you will find a way. Give it time...your "right" decision will be obvious to you.

I am recovering from a broken Tib/Fib that happened in March...snapped both right off below the knee. Big plate and a dozen screws later and now hoping to walk soon. I know I am done. For me, I've ridden enough over my life and I won't miss it much. I'd really miss walking if it would have been worse.

Everyone has their own point in life where enough is enough. I loved riding. I didn't love the 6 surgeries over the years or the 4 plates, 35 or 40 screws and months of seat time. After a certain point it gets to be too much. I don't regret riding one bit. But when I think back on some of the shit I have gone through...it makes me friggin cringe.

Dude, I don't wanna judge but if you did that to yourself first day out of prison-on a streetbike-- you might want to take close look at your life choices.

How about you don’t be a prick about it and offer some real world advice to help a guy out.
Dude made a mistake riding his motorcycle. It happens sometimes.
Have you ever made a mistake on your bike and crashed? Maybe you need to think about your life choices if you did..
It really had nothing to do with getting out of the slammer you judgmental A-Hole.

Please don't judge him as a judgmental a-hole, maybe he just made a mistake when he was typing.

Take your time, heal up, do your PT. If you want to ride again, do it. If you can swing a leg over the bike, you should be fine. Just ride within your limits and try not to crash so hard next time! Good luck.

Ok, if it were me, and I just got out of PRISON, and had received near-crippling injuries on a streetbike (single rider crash?)- I wouldn't be sitting on Vital contemplating whether I should ride a motorcycle again. But maybe this gentleman's life is in complete order and he had an unfortunate accident.
If this were your son, and he broke himself up a day out of prison on a motorcycle, would you be telling him his priority should be getting back on a motorcycle?
And yeah I broke my hip. Missed five days of work and was working from home the next week- it was covered by my insurance. And I did review my life choices, and my choice was to ride and race again.( If someone told me that was a stupid choice, I wouldn't get mad, though).

I have a couple of positions i try to avoid. Sitting straight legged with my feet up makes my right leg fall asleep and the other is when my right arm touches the top of my hip, the weight and friction jacks with the nerves where one of the bolts sit. We all juggle body tweaks over the years and just try to keep working out with the parts that don't hurt.

I understand your concern but this accident is from a 2017yz450f in a trail and a pine tree. the reason I went to prison was high speed fleeing on an 07 gxsr1000. From a case I caught 9years ago when I was 17 and was on bond till last year. and I don’t track ride I trail ride I like to travel for summer vacation and hit trails in a new state every year. I have never broken a bone till this time I have had my fair share of eating shit but nothin broken till this time and if you ask why I’m on a 450 I’m 6’9 and 325 lbs

And thank you everyone for the support I know my body and if it saids nope you ain’t gonna do this again I won’t I know my limits I just wanted to see if other people have pulled off injuries like this. I am a person who when he starts to worry it’s all going down hill everything is the worst possible outcome and there’s a few ppl with similar injuries that pulled it off so my worries are gone if I pull through and ride again I travel in summer time been to 48 states trail riding would like to ride with some of you if in the area I don’t do tracks thank you everyone

Ok, I wish you luck man. I have been down hurt and I don't wanna come down on you in that situation. I would take your time and heal up and seek stability and then worry about riding. That's the essence of my message- not a slam on you.

I understand I’m not in no rush I just hope one day i might ride again and seeing other people recover and ride makes me feel just a little more confident. I’m not a track rider I don’t do the whole catch air and land thing it’s cool an all but I never learn how to jump properly. I understood your meaning in msg I have been on my own since I was 13 pretty much had my shit together at 18 when adulting came around
