Motocross in Okinawa japan

Wondering if anyone here was stationed in Okinawa and knows anything about the local motocross scene. Anything I find on google is pretty old except for like 1 video of a decent looking track 6 months ago. I don’t imagine getting a bike there is difficult. Just curious if anyone knows of any tracks?

I know member Sully is in Japan. There's another member who post here who's in Japan as well but can't remember the name.

Maybe they'll chime in.

I was stationed at Kadena from 2009 to 2011. I am not aware of any tracks on the island.

Getting a bike was easy in Japan, I lived in Iwakuni and there was a handful of tracks in the area but only one was public and you could ride every weekend without invite. I know it doesn’t help per say, but I found out all the info I needed by just going to random bike shops and asking questions until I got the answers. Also met someone who rode and worked on base that was Japanese so he could help with the language barrier if I couldn’t sort it myself.

I was stationed there from 1997-2000 and there were 3 tracks. I did not have a bike at the time, but a buddy of mine did and I went to watch him race. Sorry I dont remember the names of the place, but he got his info about them from the local motorcycle shops there on the island. He brought his bike with him from the states. Bought a small van there to store and transport it.

If you are getting stationed there, make sure you try CoCo's, some damn good Japanese curry.

I’m on the main island, and I’ve only been to Oki once, so I actually have no idea if there’s any tracks or not. Hell, I’ve never been to any of the tracks up here either.

I think there are beach races in Oki from time to time. Not sure if you can ride there all year long though.

How did I miss this? I spent many years in Oki on and off from 1992 to present. Very familiar with the moto scene there. Old thread but let me know if you still have any questions.

currently in Okinawa briefly. does any one know of a place that would do mx bike rentals here? itching to ride and have a couple weeks off work.

No MX bike rentals that I am aware of.

The current track is very close to Camp Courtney.

Ishikawa Higashionna, Uruma, Okinawa 904-1111, Japan

Doesn't look like that fun of a track, but can't complain about having a track on a small island.

I was on Hansen in 2012 and remember trying to find a way to ride, never came up with anything but I’ve been golfing ever since lol just don’t roll a cart (drunk) the day after you pick up sergeant…you will be demoted the following day.

That's the place I linked. Yeah, it is small and definitely not AMA-National level, lol. But they prep it nice and it is fun. Couldn't ask for a nicer crew of moto-heads to hang out with.

The track north of Nago in those days was called Family Land Motocross. It closed in early 2004. They have gone through about 3-4 other track locations since then.

Update: Just talked to track crew. Track is closed until Jan 15th or 16th for holidays and track changes.
