Could anybody point me in the right direction for a decent Moto set up. Just got back into riding after about 7 years and picked up a used 14 rmz 450, so thought it might be me but these forks and shock are beating me to death. Has new seals and oil, will be changing out nitrogen in shock before next ride, I assume its never been done. 165 lb intermediate east coast so theres definitely some big bumps at times. Maybe a little less oil in fork? lighter spring(s)? longer Link? Any help is much appreciated

find out what the stock clicker and air settings are, return to those settings then you'll have a better idea which way to go. If you can't get them how you like have even sprung and valved and you'll be stoked. you could start with just springs if you don't want to jump in fully with the whole shabang.

Simplest fix, buy the fork valving from the '14 250 and live happily ever after (comes with valve stack and cap). Bolts in and costs less than a re-valve

Shock is good, work on adjusting and you will be happy

Yes, it works - takes the harshness out of the forks (they are known for this). Its a much plusher ride, but I am not a guy who takes big hits and hucks monster booters. Vet B rider with moments of good speed

There is an old DIY revalve thread with pics and settings if you search the thumper talk forum. It might have been rotajolic who posts here.

Basically, you take the base valave out of the fork, remove 8 shims and put it back together. Dont even need to take the forks off. 1 hour job.

The RM-Z250 valving simulates the mod where you remove shins, and is a bolt in solution. Results worked for me

I don't disagree, the option I suggested is also a bolt in, but its absolutely free!

What Bruce said. Night and day different bike. And once the forks actually move, they are pretty decent without any other mods. At your weight, you should probably grab a lighter fork spring too. You can use one of the .98 out of the KX250F.
