RX: We also have all these rumors about the nationals. Can you talk at all about that?
CHAD: What rumors?
RX: Oh, you know, some people are saying there is going to be a 22 bike on the line at the nationals every race.
CHAD: Oh, I don’t know. I’ll tell you one thing: I have a flight booked for 10:30 Sunday night out of LAX to Sydney, so I’ll be on that plane with my wife, Ell, and we’ll be going back to Oz.
RX: And then you’re going to come back and race the nationals...
CHAD: I haven’t ridden outdoors since the Motocross des Nations, haven’t tested, and haven’t even ridden my track at home, so... These guys, you see it on Racer X Films, with Shorty out there and all these guys, since mathematically no one has a shot at this title other than James and I, they’re riding their butts off outdoors. I haven’t ridden once. I don’t think that would be good preparation, going to Oz and doing stuff back there.
RX: So that means you’re not riding the nationals?
CHAD: I would say there’s a good chance you won’t see me at Glen Helen. But if you do, that would be nice, huh?

I am with you, Jase Lewis (#99) is going to be killing those GP guys in the nationals. Carrolton Georgia turns out the best riders in the country!
I didn't believe the hype about Anstie until I saw him ride twice recently, the kid hauls ass and to be honest is more impressive then Searle for sure. Not to be a dick, but there are actually some local A riders that look better, but who knows. I wish him luck, it takes a lot to sac up and come over here to race.

2. Mike Allessi was extremely fast last year in the Nationals in the 450 class.--well above the rest of the field with the exception of Stewart until his injuries. Given his starting prowess, he could give Villopoto a very tough fight indeed.
3. Andrew Short is very fast, very consistent, and very, very underrated because he has never grabbed the "big" win. He is better outdoors than indoors and has only gotten stronger every year.
4. Tim Ferry is today's Mike LaRocco and was 2nd in points to Stewart last year in the Nationals. He also saved the day for Team USA in the MXDN when Stewart couldn't restart his bike. If healthy, he and Short will probably be fighting for 3rd in points.
5. Hepler, Milsaps, Tedesco, Hill, Cody Cooper etc. are all fast but suffer from inconsistency. If one proves more consistant than the others, he will be the one in 5th.

1. Ryan Dungey is the only rider who beat Villopoto in the outdoors last year more than once. He aslo battled in 07 with Villopoto and Townley more than once. He has just gotten a HUGE boost with his West Coast Lites Championship. He is older, stronger, and wiser this year and will be the man to beat, bar none, until someone proves otherwise.
2. Christophe Pourcel has an FIM championship in the lites under his belt, and now has an AMA Supercross East Coast championship. He also has the team in Pro Circuit that produces 125/lites/250f champions like no other. This could very well be a contest between himself and Dungey much the way Villopoto and Townley battled in 07.

A. Trey Canard is VERY fast and also a year older, wiser, and stronger. He also has an East Coast Lites title. The way he fought off Weimer in SLC for the win was impressive.
B. Jake Weimer. Very fast, Pro Circuit, something to prove. Dangerous.
C. Austin Stroupe. Very fast, Pro Circuit, something to prove. Dangerous.

A Tyla Ratray also has an FIM championship under his belt and his runner-up
B Tommy Searle is very fast as well. Having never really seen them on American tracks against the American riders, it is hard to say how they will fare, but I suspect they will do quite well. The heat and occaisional humidity may be a shocker for them at places like Southwick and Freestone the way it was for DeReuver. Hell, last year Freestone just about killed a bunch of the Americans for that matter.
The field is very deep, to say the least, and should provide some truly AWESOME battles. We are in for a treat.
On a final, and probably somewhat controversial note, if Chad Reed does ride the nationals (which I doubt) I think some of you are overrating him. Reed doesn't really care for the Nationals, and why should he? His record there is weak. He got smoked by Stewart and Carmichael the last time he rode the Nationals and was badly beaten by Villopoto in 07 and 08 at the MDXN. (I know, I know, save your breath). Alessi and Villopoto are both far better outdoors than in. In fact, Villopoto is almost like a different rider outdoors he is so strong and aggressive. Reed would be stepping OUT of his strong point and INTO theirs and that matters- A LOT. Just look at the results.
