The thrill is in the kill, not chasing the fucker with a flesh wound for six hours. Alternatively, I've had great success with the front end of a Freightliner. Six confirmed kills, actually, and one coyote. Nothing with the Pete yet.
Laughing I was kind of hoping to not have to eat it through a straw , maybe have a steak or 2 to bring home.

Yeah, obviously there's a chance they may not have any left. But if there is one, I'll probably pick it up since I have a couple of gift cards I need to get rid of.

Thanks for reminding me that Gander is going out of business, btw. Tongue
I've read on few hunting sites that the deadline to use gift cards was the 18th or 20th of this month , I didn't bother to investigate it any to see if its true.

Have you checked your local Wal Mart? They have had new Marlins on clearance for $280.00. Now these are new Marlins, not the trusty old good Marlins but it is a cheap entry into the 45/70 if your store has the clearance price. Some do, some don't.

I'll second the Henry's. Beautiful guns and made here in the US. Smooth lever action and an amazing trigger right out of the box. Purists hate the fact that they do not have a loading gate but unless you are worried about topping off ammo in a gun battle...lol.

45/70 ammo is quite pricey. Any reason you are stuck on that caliber? Our Henry 357 Magnum/ 38 Special shoots on the cheap. I mentioned Wal Mart up above, they also carry Henry's now.

Hey Newmann!

Save your 45/70 brass & I can reload it for you!

If you don't mind shooting HARD Lead, it's really cheep!

I can cast some up for you, just let me know how heavy you want them!

I'm not overly knowledgeable on guns myself, but a friend of mine has a pretty decent Henry story/experience.

He purchased a couple of Henry rifles at the local Walmart a few years back as gifts for his wife and daughter. Had some issues with the lever actions being a bit rough, especially for these smaller ladies. He assumed that since they were purchased from Walmart that they might not be the "good stuff" like the TVs that manufacturers will sometimes make exclusively for Walmart with some inferior components to keep the cost down.

He eventually called the customer service folks at Henry who assured him that every gun from Henry should have the same specs, and they sent him a couple of boxes to ship the rifles back to them for inspection. In less than 10 days the rifles were returned with every part basically "blueprinted" and the actions worked like butter. They also threw in t shirts, hats, and a bunch of other SWAG.

His experience certainly points to some great customer service and standing behind their product.........

Had to ditch the Winchester, just too many problems.

On the other hand I bought this today...

Uberti 1873 Limited Edition in .44/40.

Action has been slicked up, and trigger has a 2lb pull! Should be good for my club comp, I'm floundering around somewhere near the bottom at the moment - all the fault of the rifle Whistling

@Motocross83, what does a box of 44.40 ammo cost over there? Expensive here in Texas.

It seems to be around the £30 - 35 ish mark for 50. With it being a rarer cartridge it isn't very readily available either, however I'm not worried as I know I can get the reloading bits and intend to dive straight into that right away.

Sure is pretty. I've been curious about Uberti for a while now, but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. Hate hearing that about the Winchester though.

I have an early 70's 336 I bought as a project. It might be one of the ugliest in the safe but has one of the best triggers. Smooth, short pull and breaks like glass. It's a great gun to shoot.

Hell yes it's a good gun!

It's probability a model 99 lever in Caliber Savage 300

I haven't seen any 300 Savage rifles in a long time, Please post a picture!
