Same thing happened when he was posting on MT.

He wanted to hook up with people but they have more fun giving him shit (ad homs) and he said "not worth it."

Fans shoot themselves in the foot over and over, and sometimes its not just fans.

It poisons the sport.
I think the industry people that post/read/care about the message boards are shooting the sport in the foot.

So if LB was ran out of MT, good for the people on MT (and this has nothing to do with LCool ....the less industry people that post/read/care about the message boards the better.

Industry people aren't doing us "fans" a favor by posting...we'd be better off if they never even acknowledged us.

In my opinion the popularity of message boards, and the severity of the complaints/razzing etc of industry people is because on occassion the message boards, and even some of the members and/or posts members make get mentioned in the magazines (racerx seems to be the one I see it the most in). It is bringing more and more poeple to the boards....hoping to get mentioned in a mag so they can have their 15 minutes of "fame".

When you give the common fan a chance to say whatever he wants to an industry person, unregulated and with no fear of consequences, they are going to take that opportunity and get every inch they can out of it.

The riders, the team managers/members, magazine journalists/editors/photogs etc would all be better off if they never ever look at the message boards....and as a result, the sport would be better off.

Let us "fans" be fans...and talk and bash and do whatever else we want to do, but don't dignify us by having industry types read/post/care what we post.

Yup! And I felt the same way when the Alessi's were posting to defend themselves on MT a while ago.

(And nothing against Hammy , the Alessis or DV, either...)

I've been an MXA fan, and by proxy, a Larry Brooks fan, for years. His rants completely sullied my opinion. The guy is a first class crybaby and douchebag. We, as fans, should automatically suck all the industry dick that comes our way, for fear of alienating them? They might not want to play in our sandbox any more? Please! At least they won't get sand in their vaginas anymore. Harden the fuck up! Quit complaining LB. You enjoy a relative life of luxury and fortune compared to the average fan. Keep your "out of touch" crying to yourself. Good riddance.

DV could take an insult and run with it. Or just ignore it. He knows how to deal with the fans whether they are the fanatics, haters or just fair weather fans.

James is a cool guy, I dont have anything against him personally. He just needs to grow up some on the track before he kills someone.

Yeah, you're all clowns for giving a guy who gives his heart and soul to the sport AND to the rider you all worship a ton of shit. Vitalidiots.

Except for the first line or so, you are actually quite right.

But it will never happen, it's too late, and like it or not people who call their businesses "THE sport" won't allow it. Boards that get big enough to get noticed like this one are "message managed" so even if all the "names" left and it looks and reads like a fan site, it won't be. The message is managed in ways you don't see.

The tradition has more than one source and it has changed over time. With SX it has been built into their thinking from the beginning and it's held them back. I heard people say that is what really wrecked things with ESPN but there is certainly more to it. SX, the Movie was a bomb in part for the same reasons-I saw a movie review site that called BS on the film right from the beginning. MX is paranoid of MX sites and ramped up management a few years ago mainly because of a bad experience with an ATV site. Then they turned their eye more to MX boards and I better not go there. I didn't notice it change until the RC fuel flap and I had pissed off the AMA big time..

It's not logical because the boards are not big enough to worry about, but they are still "opinion leaders." People who want to monitor opinion look where they can find it. VitalMX is clearly the best place for that, even if you have to sort through a lot of BoobyM's crap. Smile

And when there are opinion leaders, the message managers are there. It can't be "just a fan site," but it can look and feel like one, and it's that's good enough for you, then it is.

Fair enough. Problem solved.

Except, the rest the sport knows this too. They have opinions, and they may have a message too. For some reason I think a lot of the fussing is them not being given a chance.

There was one OEM team manager a few years ago that would agree with Titan and pretty much said the same things. Let the fans be fans. (Of course, that wasn't want I wanted to here, because I was trying to figure out how to combine the two and make it work. That worked out real good huh?)

I could give a shit what Brooks does for him......Stewart will be fast no matter what he rides and who manages him.
When you state your opinions its not law that everyone has to agree with them.....if he doesnt understand that then so be it.

Honest Question: On the subject of fellow board members

From what we have heard from Brooks would anyone really like to hook up with him and ride with him for a day?

OR

Would you rather hang out with Huck at Cooperland or a Ride day elsewhere with fellow members FTE, SloPro, Jtom and his 500. Wardy or AJ I am also including DV, Hamblin.

What would bring you more self enjoyment of riding with your buds? It's perceived from the attitude put across in the text. I am sure he is a nice guy and all but he really has never been himself, rather he has been the voice of the inside. Much like others that post and try to provide the inside info or dirt.

There are enough assholes that know how to ride better or can point out the short comings of any rider be it professional or amateur. They guy could be a great guy but its not coming across on the board. Little bit of humility and humble roots go a lot longer then trying to be the harbinger of what is going on with the errors of the sport.

We already have a good idea of that and don't need someone to verify them to feel better.

I wasn't posting during Larrygate, but according to some of the less conflict-prone posters there, Larry was chucking the "ad homs" out just as much.

Taking into consideration that he wrote one of those recent updates directly in response to some obviously sarcastic "James Stewart is ruining MX" thread, I'm inclined to believe them.

If so he was just reacting to something.

Too bad.

People tried. There won't ever be a good forum to interact directly with the real sport, not this way anyway.

If there is a market for a "good forum to interact directly with the real sport", you should make one.

Could you imagine Jeff Gordon referencing the hate I'm sure he get's on Nascar boards?

Regardless of what we all think, we don't know enough about the "goings on" in the industry to have an opinion educated enough for the people actually IN the industry to even care about.

it doesn't make him stupid or an ass....it's just lack of training. same goes for that dad character threatening people on the web...either that or he's a loon.

DV always came across on the message boards as a fan first and foremost . he just happened to be a pro rider , but he was at heart a fan of mx , just like the rest of us goons on the boards . larry brooks was just the opposite . it was very obvious that he thought of himself as being above the message board goons and was doing them a favour by lowering himself to interact with us . i still laugh at his infamous "you people" post ..... Huh

That's what Matthes said in his "observations"...He's not going to do it any more because he gets to much crap for it...Here are Matthes words exactly:

"Did you ever read those Larry Brooks MXA columns? Well, treasure that last one and frame it because it will likely be the last one. Brooks told me he’s done with the weekly updates because he just gets too much shit for doing it. He was trying to educate and entertain readers on what happens in a weekend but as we all know, he basically got buried for giving out his honest opinion. I think I know how he feels! Here’s hoping MXA replaces him with Jessica Brewer…"

Can I tell you how stupid that seems to me? Why in the world would someone like Larry Brooks, let what is said on a stupid, meaningless, measage board have any influence on what he does.

Every single fan of mx/sx doesn't read these boards. Does he not realize that less than probably 1% of of all MX/SX fans even read the message boards???? (I'm guessing, but I would be completely surprised if it was more than that). So why would he react to such a small minority?

In my opinion, a person with his position in this industry shouldn't even be reading these boards (neither should any other major player in the industry), let alone stop writing an article because a very small percentage of mx/sx fans that read these boards gave him crap for it.

Anyway, I get slightly annoyed at the way the industry players even care what is said by the very few number of people on the message boards.

I can understand why they do, I've been posting on them for several years now (motoworld, then motodrive, now here) and sometimes I have to step back and remind myself that what goes on here, isn't the "entire mx world"...because after spending time on the boards, it's easy to get sucked in so far that you think that everyone that follows the sport follows the message boards...and it just isn't true.

IF Larry wants to write those articles, then he should write the articles...and stop caring with the few of us that post here even think. Very few of us, know enough about the industry (and especially his team) to even have an opinion worthy of him even caring about.

Anyway, I'm off my soap box now...
Shut the fuck up, broken record, message slave, assfuck, can't let anything go.
