17 KTM 450 shock spring ???

Bought a 17 ktm 450, I weigh 210, the spring that's on it is a 42-200. I set my rider sag to 105mm, but the static sag is 41mm, supposed to be 35mm. I put a 5.2 on it and I can't even get the rider sag close to 105 without running out of threads, so didn't even worry about static. I got on the bike, bounced a few times, sat in the riding position and measured like always. Any suggestions on springs, tricks, or am I doing something ignorant (which has been known to happen..)? If 41 mm won't affect anything too bad, then I'm ok with it! It's also worth noting the suspension was done before I got it and the only info I have is he rode woods/mx. Just want some feedback before I go send it and swap out. Thanks.

I’m a similar weight and I use a 4.8 - works perfectly.

You need the stock 47-247 spring if you get that start out with about 8mm of pre-load should get you close to 105mm sag. Or since you have the 5.2 spring I would highly recommend getting the Pro Circuit KTM linkage I run this and it works great makes the bike plusher and more resistant to bottoming

5.2 should be about right for 210.

With the sag at 105, you should have around 6mm on the spring.

FWIW if you put the bike on the stand, you can loosen the preloader, undo the linkage bolt and drop the spring out the bottom without taking the shock off

What length is your new spring? 200mm is too short. If you stick with the stock linkage you need to go to a 48-247 or the 48-260 from the 2018 and newer bikes will actually work too and put your collar in a higher position on the body. This has the added benefit of making it easier to reach in and make preload adjustments.

You should have a 5.0 , same thing happened when I tried putting a 5-2 on my kids bike. he's the same weight as you. I didn't think 0.2 would make a difference but it does.

I am using the Factory Connection Spring 5.2 I believe they are 260mm, I had to go with it because if you use a X-trig spring adjuster you can't get to the 8mm on the adjuster cause it can hit the pipe if you start putting more than 10mm of p reload on the spring

If you look at the older ktms when they went from pds to a linkage, you can find the take off springs in the 5.0 plus rate.

Remember they set these up different, 6mm preload with 105mm rider sag is a good start

5.5 imo. I am 240 and that's what I am running. Perfect numbers, plus it holds the bike up better and makes the forks work...

Just my opinion.....

Sorry guys, but 4.8 isn't gonna cut it if you are 240lbs.

A suspension guy said my shock may have been shortened because of the lack of threads vs the spring rate and sag numbers etc .. I'm not sure, but the bike feels normal under me when I sit on it, just soft. Will try another spring recommended and go from there. The suspension isn't even close to set up for me and the bike still handles like a champ. Loving it so far.

If your shock had been shortened just a few mm, it would sit a lot lower because of the linkage ratio.

145 plus or mind 5 lbs mate.

Get the shock dialed in first... its .my first Austrian bike, I was blown away by how much difference the high speed adjuster makes on the shock.
