I did mine at 55 years old. A very good trauma specialist did mine, 13 weeks with 0 weight, then rehab my self, I guess I was lucky my pain was very minor, today I am 100%. Good luck

The advice of do what you doc and PT says is spot on. Check your moto-brain at the door. You don't want setbacks or to do something that you will pay for in the future. Try to find a therapist that is into sports rehab. They have a different approach than a PT that is trying to help a little old lady get on and off the pot twice a day.
My brain is set on pulling a ken roczen. Right now my goal is to be riding by may, even if thats a turn track or even street riding. Strength and flexibility are important to me. Ill live in PT if i have to.

Did mine in May of 2010, hit a water truck. Crushed my fibula as well. As everyone else said make sure you do the PT as prescribed. My doctor ended my prescription early and I wasn't 100%. I still don't have range of motion in that knee, still 9 years later you can see a noticeable difference in muscle mass between each leg.

I have mentally never recovered from the injury, after the accident my mind goes to dark places that it never went before when I was riding and I can't physically let myself go as fast as I used to. Confidence definitely took a dive, and now I struggle with learning new tracks and jumping big jumps...things that weren't a big deal before. I could just be getting old. Good luck!!!

Did mine in Oct. 09, had a plate and a bunch of screws installed, broke the leg again during rehab then in Aug of 2012 got a staph infection and the Dr went in and removed the hardware.

I have had several Dr. look at me and ask "so when are you going to get a knee replacement"? Im dealing with the everyday pain, but once it gets to bad to stand, new knee time!

For me I think my issue was more with the water truck...had it been something I was doing wrong I could probably get past that. Now when I'm riding I get sketched out if I see a track operator riding a four wheeler or a SXS around the track. Crazy I know.

That would be a huge mistake. You already fucked up, don't compound it. As a pro skier I've had to come back from a lot of injuries... the worst was having nearly lost my leg in an avalanche. I tore my ACL, MCL, PCL and LCL. Also had meniscus damage. 9 years later I required cadaver bone to be inserted into my femur head(OATS allograft procedure). Trust me on this, take your rehab slow. I know a lot of athletes who have rushed to get back and caused themselves nightmare complications. Are you making a living from riding? You better be if you want to pull a Roczen, And even then motocross history is littered with riders who came back too soon, had some success at first, but wrecked their careers.

Follow a structured rehab. Get a sweet bicycle. The best thing you could possibly do.

Good luck and be patient! You've got a lot of ripping left to do!

Rest and heal up take your time and listen to the experts try not to let the rest of your body go to waste. Your injured leg will atrophy thats just a part of it. Cycling is what I did to bring mine back. Best of luck and don't get down at least its fall and not spring cheers.

I don't know your pain tolerance level but pay attention to what's happening to you from opioids. I am fortunate or brain damaged in that I have never had severe pain after a surgery. After my TKR, the nursing staff kept checking my pain level every 4 hours. I kept saying 4 on a 10 scale and they kept looking at me like I was a freak. I was able to get off of them in 3 days. I would take one percocet before PT and quit that. My last 30 day supply lasted 3 months. Do not at use the pain meds be a crutch to hammer PT. I think you will find that fatigue will be as big a factor as pain during PT. At least it was for me.

In 2010 I shattered the tibial plateau, broke the fibula, tore my acl and achilles, and ripped the nerve tube onto the wrong side of the fibula. It was a long recovery and my leg has lost about 10 degrees of movement and jots out to the side instead of being straight. 3 days in the hospital, 3 surgeries, 4 months non-load bearing, and another 6 or so months on crutches. Rode about a year after the accident. Will need a replacement sometime down the road.

the only real issues that I have today are no feeling on the top of my foot and my knee isn't stable no matter how strong I get. There is always some instability due to the leg no longer being straight and I have weird pops that make me instantly just fall to the ground and I can't walk for a few days.

In an effort to get my foot and leg stronger I wear the vibram five finger shoes all the time now and they suprisingly are working. I have had an issue shifting up and wearing the vibrams really is helping during up-shifts. Shifting has become such an issue that I have seriously considered an Alta.

Be careful with the pain pills. I got hooked and it was a real problem getting off of them. I got off of them by smoking pot and taking aleve. Now I take alot of CBD and patches around the knee area work decently well.
