If you do clean your filter in gas (not recommended), make sure you still wash the filter with soap and water.

The gas or degreaser that your use only cuts the oil and some of the dirt, the soap and water will cut the dirt.

I've used gas for over 20 years now. Nothing works as good. Follow that up with some hot water and soap and you're good to go. I keep some in a 5 gallon bucket and just reuse.

yes, I'm guilty. I have thought about using something different expecially when gas got real high. What works better and is cheaper?

I use kerosene in a small spackle bucket (reusable) to break down the oil then Dawn dish liquid (softens hands) to soap it up to break down and wash out the dirt.

Gas only in a pinch. Kerosene works great and is the cheapest though it does leave a little oder in the dryer which may not be good for you married guys.

Gas just works so much faster than any thing else.
just takes a little while to air dry.

Yup, but I use multiple filters all the time so mine get plenty of time to air dry by the time they go back in the bike.

5 gallon bucket with wire netting on top of rocks at the bottom.... filled with gas... used over and over and over....

Used to use Bel-Ray and cleaned up with dish soap and water. Now I use No-Toil (or PJ1) and clean with No-Toil cleaner (or Oxyclean which cleans both No-Toil and PJ1 easily with no mess). Back on the farm when I was a kid I used regular gear oil and cleaned with gas.

I had a twin air filter that fell apart one time after I used gas. The glue that held it together started coming apart.
I don't use gas anymore unless its an emergency and I have nothing else.

I still use gas to clean filters because I am old school and it works the best. I save up the dirty gas and get a rental car once a year and fill er up! I ain't ever going to change so keep your opinions to yourselves

Yes. Soap and water after.

Also, I've never been a believer of saturating the filter in oil. I just rub in into the outside of the filter out of my hands.
