I am not sure whats up with Jlaw. But I saw him after the race walking around and he looked fine to me..he was joking around with some fans. I think he just wasnt feeling the track and decided not to race it.

I was thinking that also. They knew in plenty of time to fill the gate. Someone would have lined up.

That's the way it's always been. I don't like it and I think they should let the third place LCQ finisher into the main.

I believe this would cause all kinds of confusion. The 3rd place LCQ finisher get the gas card and the interview and all that would be pointless if they let him race the main anyway.

Why would he go to the trouble of going all the way up there at his own expense not to race? He had 2nd fastest time in the first practice (between James and Chad) and got nailed by a rock (from what they were saying on here) and hurt his wrist (I think two separate incidents). He raced in the heat race and did qualify but apparently had a hard time hanging on and said there was no way he could do 20. So I guess you are right in that he "wasn't feeling it" but sounds like he had good reason.

He earned his spot!! Why should it be givin away just because he doest choose to ride the main and injury him self more. He put is name and sponsors in the main.

Its funny how this happens all the time with many other riders that make main and never show up to the gate, but when jlaw does it people think his spot should of been filled.

Dude if he was hurt thats cool. Not taking anything from him, but there should ALWAYS be 20 bikes in the main.

Yea he was hurt. So what are you saying then.
I'am sure anyone that ever makes a main event is not going to say "Hell I made is am not going to race it" . Theres reason why riders DNS don't take it away from them.

Ditto brotha. It doesn't matter if it's J-law or Elmer Fudd. They should move up the guys from the LCQ in finishing order.

I could have sworn that they've moved guys up in the past? It seems like this is the first year they aren't doing so, but I could be way wrong.

For sure for the fans sake, there should always be a full gate. No big deal to tell the top 3 or 4 LCQ riders to keep their gear on for 20min more because they might get called up.

So what are all the guys that finished 3rd or behind in the LCQ suppose to just wait around for an hr and see if someone doesn't line up. I know when I finish my last race I ride the bike into the trailer and get the hell out of there.

Have you ever heard of stand by on the airlines?

Just saying that there is no need to leave a spot on the gate open.

Couple things;

The rider earned the spot, whether he chooses to race it or not.

This matters because the rider will receive both 20th place points, purse money AND contingency monies from sponsors and event sponsors.

The rider earned that money because he raced to get it.

Even with a DNS, that rider earned the 20th place finish he will get scored...earned it and therefore deserves his payments for that 20th place finish.

It just makes sense. Especially with the volume of roost the 450s produce, eventually you are gonna catch a rock or hard clod to the hands. My handguards help me even on MX tracks, if you fall they keep the levers intact and the grips dont rip. I dont ever notice they are there. Well, until they help me, then I notice.

With all of the sponsors in supercross and the high # of fans that the sponsors are trying to get in front of or seen by plus tv, I could see them putting the next rider in as long as he will give up the gas card to the next guy. There are some good riders not getting in who are on teams with big sponsors. That $750 is nothing to them vs making the main for the sponsor or there resume for the following year. Nascar went to the lucky dog to get more cars on the lead lap for better racing, why cant the AMA start a full gate. Exposure is the name of the game in marketing and the more you can get the more sponsors you attract.
Pic the 3rd,4th,5th place out of the lcq, line them up to the side of the gate and let them get 3 seconds of tv time ,if there is a first turn crash someone is out (how many times this year) 3rd gets the first shot, he is a lap down when he goes out loses his $750 but gets 19 laps of exposure and track time during the main. He does not get scored, does not interfear with the leaders and gets no more points, but to a sponsor that is exposure. Someone crashes in the whoops on lap 3,they are out, give 4th the same chance up untill lap 10.
How many people on this board would pay $750 to get to run the last 10 laps of a supercross main? I know all of the pros that are missing the cut would.

I'm almost positive I've heard of riders who missed qualifying getting called back to the main after a similar situation... maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Must be a new rule.

Keeps your levers intact ? Are you talking about the roost shield one's like Pastrana
or wrap arounds ? Wrap arounds are banned in AMA mx races. Seen a few guys scramble to get those off at a few am. races after they showed up in staging with
them on.
