So much for the motorhome, bought a works bike instead.

Almost ready to pull the trigger on a Showhauler of some sort when I get a call from Kent Howerton. I put the bug in his ear over five years ago about selling me his last factory ride. Amazing how this stuff comes available when you seem least prepared. But after five years of keeping my name at the top of the list I wasn't going to let it pass. The shrouds are not bolted on, it is pretty used looking but it is complete and it runs. From back when a "factory" bike really meant something special. Fabricated from the ground up bearing nearly zero resemblance to the air cooled pig offered to the public. Magnesium hubs, forks machined from solid billet, uppers are knurled in the pinch areas, hollow triple clamps, alloy tank, works frame, works swingarm and linkage works shock and special plastics. Needs a good going over but it will be put in running order and occasionally out on the track.

That is way cool dude! I love it when people are passionate about things like this!

Goosebumps. It looks rather mint to me, what's the "problem" with it? Looks better than what I usually take to track? Your ambition is to ride it or make it an exhibition?

Internally, this motor shares most of the components with a production bike. That makes this one rideable. Now crack a magnesium hub and you're in trouble. LOL. My 77 OW27 Yamaha would not be one to ride as I have no idea about getting any parts for that short of a superb machinist.

The sandcast mag bits are very brittle on the old works bikes too, best to keep them as garage queens Cool

I still wouldn't ride it.
It would be worth way too much to risk breaking anything.
Besides - to me, it is pure eye candy or moto porn. I would hang it up in my garage and let my buddies drool over it.

For the most part, Kent will probably be the only person to really put any laps on this bike in the future. He occasionally competes in some of our vintage events and it would be cool for him to take some parade laps at least. I fueled up one of mine for Steve Wise a few months back and it made it's way into Racer X. Pretty cool indeed.
