Reeds every bit as fast as Stewart

Edited Date/Time 1/22/2012 11:29pm
I read these posts about Chad is never going to get respect unless he beats Bubba straight up. Well!! I believe this is going to be the second year in a row he's beat Bubba straight up for a SX championship. Last year, Stewart lined up at Anaheim 1 and injured himself out of title contention. This year he hasn't injured himself, but he's losing the SX championship all the same to Reed. I think people seem to confuse Smarts as being a slower rider, but personally I believe if Chad had no regard for his health and safety and wasn't looking at the big picture ( AMA SX championship ), he could easily post just as fast or faster lap times than Stewart does on a consistent basis, BUT!!! at the risk of crashing himself out of title contention. I think bashing on Reed and saying he's not as fast is just a way of Stewarts fans making themselves feel as if somehow his AMA SX title is un-deserved. There's no doubt that Stewart is one of the fastest and most talented riders to ever swing a leg over a dirt bike, BUT!! Chad Reed and Ricky Carmichael have both proved that there's more to winning a championship then going balls out all the time and riding over your head and that's why Bubba will never equal McGraths and RC's records, because he keeps forgetting that he has to be in it to win it, BUT!! I'll agree, he sure is fun to watch.

I say yes BL he would be in the 'i have nothing to lose mode' the same one js has found himself in from A1. Last time Reed was in that mode was A3 where he was 2.1 seconds faster than js

Didnt James have the points lead?

I can't believe all the Chad haters.

Chad is the only one who has the speed to run with James or RC. Those are BIG boots to fill.

I will admit James can be faster, but Chad is definately right there quite a bit. Noone else is even close.

If James is a freak of nature, than what is Chad?

I am a huge fan( but I am not blinded) of Chad Reed he is one of the smoothest consistently fast riders ever.... But for sheer raw blinding speed no-one can match it with James at the moment or in the near future.
If it was a 10 lap sprint winner takes 10 million bucks I think James would win.
a championship is a different story.
It looks like it will be who ever wins Las Vegas will win the championship. I think mentally Chad is one top at the moment.

Chad said himself, he'd be willing to hang it out if need be, when James went on his 7-0 run did anyone see Chad hanging out anything?, No, what you see is all he has...He was about to settle for 2nd last night..

You might recall that Chad held the points lead through those 7 races.

I don't think Chad has a "Master Plan" whereby he is just waiting for James to screw up and that in the end he will win the title by one or two points and be happy that his cunning plan went exactly as anticipated.
I think Chad naturally rides smart and is deliberate in what he does, he keeps his composure and absorbs pressure very well. James on the other hand is naturally more of a risk taker and tends to be emotive when under pressure. He is obviously extremely talented but sometimes his emotions win over his better judgement which results in less consistant performances.
This said, I think they are both just going about their work dealing with the enormous pressure they are both experiencing the only way they know how, and the results are unfolding in front of us all.
Either way, it's a great struggle for the title.

He was leading the championship...What did he have to lose? He knew he could ride smart and get halfway through the season and still be leading.

EVERYONE on the track can go faster, at the expense of crashing. Crashing has already cost Stewart more titles than he'll win the rest of his career. Write it down and remember it.

Heh heh, it is rather amusing. Smile Look, nobody in their right mind is going to say Chad is faster than James on a lap to lap basis (although sometimes he looks "as" fast before James cranks it up). However, sometimes Chad is faster to the checkered flag. If he does that enough it might just be good enough.

3/23/2009 9:20am
James is faster than reed no question.. obviously there are rare weekends that reed is close to james or maybe a couple 100ths faster but overall james is faster..Reed is conistant thats for sure.. i'm pretty impressed with him for that... James just has had some bad luck.. like last weekend hitting neutral.. thats just bad luck... however it does make the last 5 races of the series exciting..

I want to actually thank Reed for hitting James at A1 if that did not happen this championships would have been in the bag and the racing would not be as exciting.. Its gonna come down to Vegas and my god thats gonna be an intense race to watch...If James comes back to win the title I think i will mean so much more than if he won the title by 30 points..

waddup ellie? straight up? what the fuck does that mean ellie? there is only one type of win that counts...the win at the checkers. asswipes that talk this straight up shit are full of shit and have obviously been on the short end of the winning stick in their so called racing careers.

but for one lap sheer speed...i'm goin with james

The difference is Reed races as fast as he can. Stewart races faster than he can.

So hitting a neutral during a race means you're riding faster than you can?...I'm sure James says every race, I'm going to go until I crash...
