I think there is either a company called Eject or the product is called Eject......but yeah, some of the mx guys are using something like that. There is an air bladder type thingy that sits in the crown of the helmet and an air pump that inflates it and allows the helmet to kinda push away from the head.

The "hats off device" has been mandatory for all pro riders since 2007 I believe

That's a old wives tale, while a series of concussions do cause serious damage, if the brain really couldn't reproduce brain cells and all damage was permanent then even a couple concussions could leave you with a huge gap in knowledge and memory. The brain actually contains stem cells.

TK is right BUT, there is one part of the brain that does regenerate cells (but only one) and it is a very small part (something like the hypothalamus, but I'm too lazy to look it up just to prove anything to you goobers).

He was wrong because he stated it so matter of factly. I'm not saying that all brain damage is repairable, but not all brain damage is permanent. I didn't call him any names, so I'm not sure why you need to resort to it. Neuroscience is a relatively new science and many things are still being discovered and debated in the field.

Haha everyone definitely has an opinion on helmets, I could go on for hours. Wikipedia has actually cleaned their stuff up quite a bit. I tried to make a minor change to an obscure article a few months ago and got some message the next time I got on from an admin about how I didn't provide a good enough explanation for deleting what I did. I tend to use Wikipedia as a reference because it is more accessible to everyone and people are more likely to read it, I try to never imply it is fact. Everything you read should be taken with a grain of salt imo.

Funny this popped up again. I was riding at Waldo in FL last week and he was parked next to me training a couple kids. Had IT Mx training logos on the car he was driving and you can tell from the itmx Instagram account that he’s pretty into doing that. I felt super bad for the kid cuz he looked pretty physically handicapped especially with walking. But given his injury he’s doing pretty well. Was very surprised to see him around mx again after all that has happened but I talked to him a bit and he was super nice and seemed decently happy.

Something that was never really mentioned about this but I think is relevant, Ian had broke his collarbone in the week leading into the Atlanta race on Feb-26-2011. Then he's racing the next round at Daytona on March 5 and has the career ending, life threatening injury in practice.

I hope he wasn't pressured by the team, sponsors or family to race injured. This was right after the big cutbacks to pro racing in 2009. A lot of guys were riding injured back then, teams didn't really stick with guys too long if they didn't perform. There were also some pretty draconian penalties as far as missing races for injury from sponsors.

I see he mentions mind control as a part of his coaching program. I’m not sure if i’m right but didn’t he go off to College to gain a degree after his racing career had to be stopped? So i’m Guessing if my memory is correct he probably has educated himself just nicely to make a difference.

Got a very serious head injury and from what i remember the doctors said one more concussion could make some serious permanent damage. He made the decision to just live his life and took the safe route. He's done racing. It's sad but i respect his decision. I think i remember him saying there's a lot more to life than riding. Hope he's successful in whatever he does in life.

I hope I am wrong but my guess is Millsaps has been riding on this same train.

For example, if the Limbic System is damaged (controls sense of smell), then it is affected depending on the degree of damage, the loss of sense of smell cannot be compromised by the Cerebellum because that is responsible for posture, balance etc. The brain is extremely complex, as every section is responsible for something so important. I think Trettel has damaged his cerebellum, which is obviously a huge deal. Also, yes i study physiology at university.
You’re trying to teach us about brain function, but you don’t understand the word compromise.

Ian trained my six year old son last year leading up to Mini O's, and some afterwards down here in Florida. He is great with kids and has a different approach than most trainers, but it works. At least it did with my son. He is not the typical, you need to be pushing the limit every lap in practice type guy. He takes a more methodical approach, with fine tuning technique that eventually leads to natural speed gain. Super nice guy, that has a ton of experience.

I did 6 months after my frontal lobe contusion. My short term memory was near non existent for a while. I don't remember the first two weeks in intensive care because I suppose I wasn't forming long term memories for a while there either even though I was only out for a minute or two. I came back pretty good and the best thing I did was go back and further my education, but never got back to where I was. I got 3 quarters through mechanical engineering before I hit the wall. That was 25 years ago. I've been going down hill pretty fast the last 10 years. Name and word recall issues makes me look like a stuttering, bumbling fool. Recently did a level 2 paramedics course as part of my job in emergency services and while I was getting 100% or near in the theory because I'm good with physics I guess, I failed prac because I couldn't recall what to do properly or calmly in the staged prac exams and failed and once they knew I was brain impaired, got managed out of the job pretty quickly. Don't know how my decline will go in the future but I guess it will be similar to early onset Alzheimer's. This took me about 25 minutes to write with all the prove writing and rewriting I have to do to get the ramblings legible to others.
Sorry to derail that from Ian. Had to vent a little. Going through some issues at the moment myself

I didn’t say anything!

But 4 and half years ago I died and was in a coma for a week. Brain trauma messed up my memory and eye sight
