Does the 16.5 FE have the 17 frame? Im running the 17 CV's on my 16.5 FE on the first line and they feel balanced with my Trax shock and sag set at 108. Im running 3mm of preload on the CV how would that fit into the equation?
16.5 and 17 frame is same.

Whats your weight? Rear spring? Oil level and springs in fork?

One suggestion was to actually cut the shock shaft down a little to balance things out.

Dont do that mate. Even at 10-15mm difference, your fork heights are adjustable within the limits of the chassis.

PS people can shorten shocks and its usually done by spacers internally, but it gets really complex when considering rising rate of the linkage etc.

I've got my hacksaw ready to go. I won't Bruce....that seems excessive to me. I'm only pointing out that it was suggested.

Sounds balanced. im 200lbs, 48 rear spring, 4.8 springs in front with 420ml oil and no preload. pretty much std clickers. 107-8 sag on revalved OEM shock. I want to run 105 sag so will go back to oem valving and try with standard 450 Ohlins ttx flow to get there.

Guys,
I took 2016 Cone Valve forks (old style.....not black) off of my 2016 ktm450sxf and put them on my 2017 ktm450sxf. I thought nothing of it until i called Factory Connection and they suggestes the new style because they are longer. Have any of you had issues using the older cone valves with a 2017 or newer ktm?
I talked with Steve Ross this week at Factory Connection and he said they will soon have the parts to update the shorter forks to the current length if you would like to. It was around $300 plus the rebuild and consisted of new damper rods and adjustment sleeves I believe he said. Also I found a Cone Valve manual online:

The only real issue with having these shorter forks is the fact that you can't drop the forks down into the triple clamps for certain tracks. It's not really an issue for the tracks that I ride. Race Tech has a gentlemen named Luke and he is awesome.

Luke Boyk? I'm not sure that's spelled correctly, but a friend of mine bought a set of his personal forks for a KXF450 and loved them. Yes, he's top notch if it's the same guy.
Yep, I have to run mine flush and they do ok at most tracks. I bought a Husqvarna Rockstar 450 from a guy with only 2.5 hours on it and the stock forks work pretty darn good for me. I'm still playing with these Cones though.
