I may end up using that muffler but I won't be using the pipe.
The pipe that I will be using is almost done Woohoo
I may or may not be using the muffler.... It all depends on how the custom one comes out...

Lol... About a week ago Jason told me to look at a 1998 KTM 380 air box I had in inventory.
I pulled it out thinking no way is that going to be even close...
Guess what...

Another builder, Jan Pettersson, gave me this info...
Nice, I think I going more straight, The shock is more at right side in frame and can be avoided more easy, intakeboot from 1986-kx500 and airboot from ktm 300 twostroke give less angle.

With just a little fudging it went in.
A few minor issues and it works like a champ..
Nice job Jason...

What could be better then a modern chassis waiting for a 2T transplant?

Because Adam is dropping in a CR500 engine I figured that he would appreciate the extra art work on his crate.. Laughing

I almost have some parts ready for the anodizer..

I've been playing around with Microsoft Paint to get a rough idea's of some color schemes.
Obviously this is rough... Laughing

Some parts for the KTM only come in Pumpkin hide or black..
So, I blew the pumpkin hide right off this brake cooler with the vapor blaster..

Finally have the front brake caliper mount ready to anodize..

JFYI. Polishing cast alloy parts makes no real difference when anodizing. Only with Billet.
There's a thread on here somewhere that had polished cast alloy parts that went off to get anno and looked like total shit when they came back. They looked great before being annoed though. It might've been Slosh's RM 125 built, but don't quote me.
I've also done it myself with mixed results.

Anyway, glad you posted my daily update Tongue . The build's coming along very nicely. I'm enjoying your thread Cool .

Good to know.
Until I did this project I had never considered anodizing anything.
We'll see how it all turns out.
I do a lot of Vapor Blasting and one thing I know for sure about cast and billet aluminum... They can be vastly different in their finish depending on a lot of factors that I have not even considered :-)
I am also working on doing some Cerakoting.
I have all the tools... I just need to decide on some colors and get busy Cool

Ya shosh anadized a couple cast parts. from what i could tell they came back like a matte color. It has something to do with the pores opening up during the anodizing process.

This is a pretty sweet build. Looking foreard to the finished bike!!

Ya, we'll have to see how the parts turn out.
Worst case scenario I'll buy a use brake set off eBay and start over Sick

So far this has been a fun build.
Way easier then the Aluminum frame conversions that I have done..

Here is a short vid to describe where we are at in the build.
This is part one.
There will be other parts but I have no idea how many.
Enjoy and laugh as it is live and unrehearsed

Unfortunately cast items anodize very shitty, much darker and a matte finish. Save yourself the work and keep them polished the way they are! Try with something you don’t have to use on the bike to see if it meets your standards? Old linkage etc.

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus.
I guess we'll see when they come back Grinning

I found out last night that the welder is doing 3 passes with the tig.
He starts with a very small diameter rod so that he can get deep penetration into the crack where the two parts come together.
He does this in short weld sections to allow for cooling.
Tigging short sections then moving to another part that needs to be tigged, working his way around the frame until all the parts are fully welded has many benefits.
After the welds are fully done, he increases the tig rod diameter and starts process again.
I had no idea but it makes sense.
Keeping the chromoly cool will help to keep it from getting needlessly annealed.

As usual I had a few mods I wanted to try Woohoo
This time I grabbed that one color of spray paint that I bought years ago and have never used... G.O.L.D.

A quick shot leaves a nice template to follow..

Added a few lines...

A little time on the bench grinder and one cut with the Sawsall and it's roughed out..

Almost ready...

Not perfect but good enough for who it's for Whistling

A little titanium and I plugged off the Solenoid... Don't need that for what I'm doing

I had to shorten then bolt about 1/4".
They just don't make a lot of bolt sizes in Titanium so your stuck with plan B Grinning

After the welding was done I put a rattle can coat on to protect from rust.
I will have the frame powder coated once the final mock up has been finalized.

It's Kawasaki Lime Green, what could go wrong Sick

I did a quick mock up to be sure everything was still perfect.

Oh yeah... I'm smiling... Every bolt lined up perfectly.
A big shout out goes to Vince and Travis Brewer who did the welding and to Jason tanner from JT Engine Works who helped me a lot on the fabrication of the modded frame.

Thanks!
It took Jason and I a while to get it just right but it was worth the little extra time it took.
Travis and Vince did a outstanding job of welding it up.
I just hope the rest of this build turns out as nice...

Here is some pics of the head stay.
What we did was build a little chromoly box out of .100" plate.
Then we welded inserts to the inside that were tapped all the way through.
Then the box was welded over the big hole in the bottom of the frame that was for the fuel injection and whatever else was in there :-)
When used with the Honda CRF250R head stay mounts if fit perfectly and gave a good angle for the head stay alignment.

The other advantage to using the CRF head stays is they are bent so that there is plenty of clearance around the carb as I will show in another mock up later on..
In the pics I did not screw the bolts all the way in as these were just to test the fitment and alignments so don't worry.
