Tech 8 Boot Soles

Edited Date/Time 1/26/2012 12:11pm
Anyone know the best way to go on replacing worn out soles? I have 1 boot with a destroyed sole (shifter side, which is odd) and the right foot is fine. Just want to do it cheaply, but I don't want to ruin my $300 perfectly broke in boots.

And no, I'm not complaining they wore out, those boots have a shit ton of riding time on them, in the range of 300-400 hours

I didn't think it was that easy to fit the tech 8 replacement inserts so used to buy inserts and then take the boots to a shoe repairer who could fix them for about $20.

Good luck on the short range sole replacement plan.

Years ago, my long-range plan was to buy Gaerne SG-10s...happy ever since.

Just send them to alpinestars. The turnaround is super fast too.

I did the tech 10 replacement myself. WOW it was a total pain in the ass. I reccomend using a heat gun (to soften the rubber) flathead screwdriver (to pry apart the rubber) and Pliers (to rip the sole off) Just be careful with the heat gun because it is very easy to ruin the boot.

I have had several pairs done, latest about 2 months ago. Call Alpinestar, they will give you an RA number. Ship your boots to them, you will have them back in about a week after they receive them, most times free of charge.

Ended up sending them there finally, after getting sick of using tech 3's for the last few months. Dude did a great job on my boots, absolutely no complaints.

+1 Have used them for last 3 pair of Tech 8's. The SIDI soles will out last the boot itself. Why would you waste $ having Alps put on the same sole that lasted less than a season?

I have 2 pairs of the pre-2004 Tech 8s with the stitched soles and replaceable sole insert. Mine say "Made in Italy." The new ones have molded soles which I don't like. I've kept the leather and plastic conditioned on my boots and they are still in great shape. The soles are only scratched. I going to buy a pair of replacement sole inserts as they are getting harder to come by.
