this lead thing affects them also?

I got several here that kids race and a parent called me saying he could not get a crank/piston/all the pieces in between,from anyone.

I thought it was just little pit type bikes.

If I just bought a brand new 85 and couldn't get parts for it I would probably want to sue someone. Who do I go after? Congress?

This is what Kawasaki, told me...All dealers are required "not" to sell any parts for any bike manufactured for 12 years, and younger.

They are to receive credit for all parts, but keep all parts on hand, in case of a turn around in the ban.

They were asked to store all units, and will be charged no flooring fees.

that is pretty much what this parent said.

Also said some kid had died from the lead in a bike.How is that possible?

If you have a Kaw 85 you can buy parts. If you have a Kaw 65 you need to go after Congress .

I jsut bought a complete rebuild set of parts for a 2007 85cc Suzuki. Everything to completely rebuild the motor and it's all OEM parts. There should be no issue on 85's parts or bike sales.

Freaking unreal what a knee jerk reaction congress made over the lead stuff from chinese toys to the motorcycle industry.

They did a bit on it on the local news the other night.
They say there may be some amendments or adjustments coming soon to rectify their f-ups but nothing solid yet.

maybe they should spring the 65's for 200lb riders and market them for adults and sell some led free springs for the kids or 'lite adults'.

The news story I saw a few nights ago mentioned that many adults like to ride the minis as well but were not allowed to buy them.

Its a mess.

No kid has died from the lead in a motorcycle that is bs, it is physically impossible to do that and who ever told you that is a moron.
There is lead in just about every type of metal out there, it is part of the manufacturing process, in some it is a by-product of the process. In fact the silverware you eat with, the metal door handles on your car and house,dresser,toilet handle,alum baseball bats,dog collars,hockey skates,etc..
All these metal items have trace amounts of lead in them, but you will not be exposed to it unless you decide to chew them up and eat them. The big 4 (Honda,Yamaha,etc,) decided to VOLUNTARILY withdraw their products from the market. The CPSC did not ban any of these vehicles,or their parts.

I think it all depends on how the OEM markets the 85, i think some of them were tagged 12 and up.

you'd probably have to drive across into Canada and buy them but it's probably still illegal to do that though.

I just bought a new piston, rings, pin and clips from Motosport.com for our CR85, no problem last week. All parts arrived on my doorstep yesterday afternoon. Seems like it's business as usual for them. I get most of my 85 parts from them, just like I did before the lead ban.

Honda has released a bulletin to its dealers stating the parts that they will not sell right now. For the most part, it is engine cases, cylinder, head, wheel hubs, and wheel assy for CRF/XR 50s, 70s, 80s and the 09 TRX90.

You can get anything else.

Anyone who stops selling parts for small bikes is shooting themselves in the foot. Howmany times has an 8 or10 year old come into your shop and bought a top end kit or an exhaust or anything else for that matter. The adults are the ones paying for everything probably with a credit card. I just started my own dirt bike business and I for one am not going to stop selling parts.
Think about it even the silverware sold at walmart should be taken off the shelf because kids use it. People are just over reacting to this whole thing.
If the parts manufacturers are afraid all they have to do is label the boxes "not for use by children under 12". Then it will be just like car parts that they label "for offroad use only" but everyone sticks them on their street car anyways.
