I've been a motocrosser for 20 years and Race Tech is the best I have ever had. Customer service is awesome too. I sent mine back a month after initially getting it back to have them remove the sx hybrid setting, as I don't really ride sx style much. The turnaround was a week and a half and it came back spot on for my local tracks. Haven't touched it since. Excellent company. That Chris guy is alright in my book too.

The 4CS forks take a lot of work (and parts) to transform them from stock to something riders really enjoy, but it can definitely be done. It was a continuous development process for our R&D department to finally put all the pieces of the puzzle together, but as the guy who generally follows up with our customers riding our products as well as our dealers/centers installing our products and settings; feedback has been exceptional for everything from motocross, to offroad, to SX/AX now. It does take some parts and they have a cost of course, but you don't have to go to kit suspension to make your forks work. Of course, if you want to, we sell that too as a WP Center and would gladly do so.

Here is a pretty indepth review from a Vital member who had his 4CS stuff done recently.

logan140, go with the jbi perches or the huckvalves. u will be much happier
The JBI pro perch works fantastic. The single best mod you can do to forks in my opinion.

Thanks for the comments, I take it you work for Race Tech. Could you please talk more about the bottoming device? I'm just wondering why the huck seems to have a pretty solid group of proponents. Is it possible to have the huck valve and the Gold Valve? I'm a bit of a newb with suspension mods.

The bottoming device is not much money compared to what I was considering spending not to long ago.

I'm not a fast guy, 40b vet, the dang top 10 young fellows in c are faster than me.

Thanks for your suggestions and commen's

Sorry to pile the questions on. But I was actually looking at the Gold Valve on the Race Tech site yesterday. I bought my bike used and the previous owner raced motocross and he had it valved for him. He also weighed about 120 soaking wet. I'm about 210 and 6' and race cross country. . . I replaced the springs but didn't touch the valving. If I get the Gold Valve, is there anything that the previous tech might have done to the suspension that would create an obstacle for me installing the Gold Valve? Does the valving adjust with the weight of the rider? Or is changing the spring enough?

GWilson, yes I am the marketing director for Race Tech. That being said, I know just enough about suspension and our products to back myself into a corner, so on a question like this I will take it to our techs to get you an accurate answer versus something I'm 80% sure on. Mainly because this way I can give a reason why or why not to go the route you're looking.

IWreckALot, somewhat of a tricky question. Reason being, without knowing what is inside, it is a gamble to say either way. What I can say, is if he just did a "standard" revalve and didn't break anything in the process, then no worries. We replace the piston with a Gold Valve and replace all the shims anyways. However, there is always the risk that they tried to re-engineer something and left damage (or changes) that can't be un-done without replacing a part. More often than not, it isn't an issue, but I don't want to promise you that it won't be and then have some odd case scenario happen without at least letting you know the possibility.

With that said, your suspension performance is based on a combination of valving and springs. Race Tech focuses on spring rates to properly balance the bike based mainly on rider weight. From there, valving is used to control the action of the suspension. Valving is more focused on personalization (skill level/type of riding and a bit of weight).

Hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.

now I'm confused again, I thought the bottoming device was a Race Tech part, how does WP Center apply to the conversation? Are these WP parts we're talking about or Race Tech parts?

'kit' suspension, you're talking WP CV parts right?

Thanks, Gary

Sorry for the confusion.

What I was saying is, we can revalve and complete an open chamber conversion on your stock WP 4CS forks. This is using Race Tech parts/settings.

A lot of guys on Vital believe the only fix for these forks is replacing them and are having great results with buying WP Cone Valve (A-kit) forks. That is what I was referring to, as we are a WP Center and can sell those direct to you. This is a more expensive option, and we are having great results with just modifying the stock components with Race Tech parts.

Hope that helps!

Gary,

Our tech said he would not recommend using both components. We have spent a lot of resources testing and developing our open chamber 4CS setup with our own components, and each compliments the next. With the open chamber conversion and Gold Valves our customers are not having any bottoming complaints.

Nothing wrong with gold valves, but i dont think you need them. It is a good way to diy and i highly recommend you do it so you can gain experience. Thr setup will likely not be near as good as a tuner, but going forward once you get it and can make changes based on what you are feeling you can get a real good setup. Its not for most riders, you have to be interested in learning. It will take time. Problem i have with some tuners pedaling gold valves is some really are just doing what you can do yourself. you are paying for what they know more then what they are doing.

Hello,

I have a yz450f 2018. We all know this bikes suspension is working really good. My question is this: If i get the Race tech gold valve kit, and revalve the suspension just the way i like, will the suspension work better than it did with the stock components? A response would be greatly appreciated.

Just to make things clear, many would ask what is the reason to buy Racetech gold Valve kit if your suspension is working really good? Well all the 2017 season i was riding a kx450f 2017 and i spent a fortune for kyb factory spring forks and shock, just to find out that, apart from how good the quality was (even in hot race days the forks never had air inside) performance wise, they werent that much better than the stock yamaha suspension. Especially the forks. So i am looking for cheaper ways to make my stock yamaha suspension working even better. Jbi or zeta aluminium fork free piston and jbi pro perch are in my list.

A high level rider

In my opinion there is value with some RaceTech components. You have to pick and choose stuff based on some hard earned knowledge. The 2004-2009 showa CRF250/450 midvalve kit they offer is much better then stock. It solves the sharp edge bump harshness when setup correctly.

I also have rode a 16 4CS equiped KTM350 with their solution and it is a good fork off road. Much better then stock.. I think Paul there solves some problems with the factory stuff....

I have a question about the Vital Discount, does it apply to the gold valve kits only or does it apply to the labor to have Race Tech do the installs as well? I've always wanted to try RT stuff and my new 350 needs help given my weight.

Thanks!
