Travis Pastrana would be the only logical choice. All other Americans have failed as of late. Didnt Sato beat Speed?

Both of these guys who are at the front of this new 'team' have been involved with more false-starts and premature team announcements than anyone in motor racing.

Don't get too excited about it until you actually see a car testing somewhere.

Even then............

They are claiming that they will never have a budget of even 100MIL. The number i heard floated about was in the 50MIL range.

To the person that suggested Pastrana as a possible driver... Are you joking? Please tell me that you're joking.

ya Brian, i also heard they got a measly (by F1 standards) 64mil. That sure wont get them far.

I saw Peter Windsor on WinTunnel talking with Despain. PW made some pretty wild statements, like most of the technology you see in F1 came from the US.

I wish them the best and would be cool to see happen, but i wont be holding my breath.

64 Million? Even 100 Mill. Most of the tech came from the US?
Shit, Nascar still uses temporary spares for wheels and steering wheels out of old short school busses.

He did not mention engine technology coming from US, he wasnt real specific but mentioned a lot of the carbon tech and the big auto claves used are made here. I dont remember the exact specifics he said, but it really surprised me and i dont buy it.

Ill see if i can find clips of his interview.

Well its not in either of those 2 clips, part 2 ends right when they talked about NC and the technology coming out of there.

a quote from Ken Anderson:

""Most of the technology from F1 comes from the US to begin with, and on the logistics side, next year less than half the races take place on the (European) continent so there is less reason for being there," he said. "The cost of doing business in the US is significantly cheaper than Europe and there are a lot of good people here.""

Remember last fall when KB was set to do a test with Toyota and NASCAR made him cancel it when they demanded he be at the banquet?

There are several up and coming US born drivers that are plotting a proper F1 course of development. It's going to be fun to watch these guys develop. In the mean time, guys like AJA, Pat Long, and a few are worth taking a look at.

Floating names out like Danica, Marco, and even Travis looks good on a press release but not so much when based in reality.

Pastrana would get it done

Or crash trying. I would bet he would be pretty good. Little old now.

As much as I like TP and respect what he's been able to accomplish in the Rally America series, the fact is that he is the big fish in a tiny pond. He does show flashes of brilliance at times, like in the RoC, but F1 is so above and beyond his skill set.

Would it be fun to watch? Maybe. But, I think in the end it would just be sad.

plus, TP said in an interview a while back that he wasn't too into circuit racing. Rally requires a driver to be far less precise, where driving on a proper circuit is all about hitting the marks lap after lap after lap.
