Hi, I just picked up a 1987 CR250. What is the best coolant to use with the Magnesium clutch / waterpump cover?

Thanks

I have an '85 CR250 with the same magnesium water pump issues. I run the Evans waterless coolant in mine.

I use Evans in my KX also. The no boil over thing makes sense to me. Hate getting that stuff on my hands
Is that a bike for you to ride Bill? The 87s were great bikes

The number 522 on a Honda? Way-cool old school significance there, like 43 years old.

The number 522 is the previous owners ACR race number.

Yeah, I figured that was a "newly acquired, yet to be unloaded" pic, but wonder if owner knew about Smith.

My last MX bike was an '87 CR250 in '87; ENJOY!

I was at a track day this wkend (South fork Disputana Va- Great Place) and a kid 18? w/mom& dad in their 40's had 522 on yz250? stickers, jerseys, all of it. Emroidered canopy. geez. I roll over & say w/ a smile, " So whats up w/522? Kid says my birthday. Said "What famous awesome rider had 522? All parties clueless and had NEVER even heard of Marty Smith. I was scared to throw Hannah out there cuz I didn't want to puke before my next session. That's sad, and yes I'm an old bastard.

That's a great story cvm and I can relate to your last statement, for certain! I've always been "number conscious", and use ancient national numbers to help me remember numbers presently as needed. J. Ellis' #37 is his most significant to me and so I think of him if I need to remember that number; numbers 14 or 27 both bring Marty Tripes to mind, as examples. I chose my number 152 as a flipping of numbers one digit short of Smith's (521), one over a displacement class (251) and an exact match to the displacement class I was racing at the time (125, Elsie).

I'm grateful to have grown up in an age where factory teams traveled in cargo vans and motocross wasn't mainstream pop-culture.

Sorry about the thread hijack, EastCoastMaico; at least we're on the right forum.Blush

Sounds like Evans coolant is the way to go!
