I have seen guys grenade engines for fun , by just upping rev limits, back in the day we ran a maximum of 250 RPM over stock , simply because there was more to be had by how much fuel you put in, when you put it in, and when you light it.. basics that a lot of folk don't get . So they add revs, to get Dyno numbers, and nothing lasts.

Rev limits work. Its simple and easy to police. Without it we will be looking at 20 rider grids in 3 years .

I'd never thought about restricting RPM's or motor mods like in Moto3 but now I've thought about it and I'm totally on board with the idea. It's a "kill 3 birds with one stone" kind of deal:

-Reduced cost
-Increased safety
-Very transparant in what can and can't be done

The only way to police a rev limit is to hand out spec sealed ECU, and the teams would not go for that. Take for example jet ski racing. The limited class (stand ups) allowed kawasakis, Yamaha's, and the four stroke hydrospace. The hydro space being a turbo was limited by the amount of boost it was allowed to run. To test boost you strap it down in the water, hold it wide open, and measure boost. Simple right? Well what the race teams did not tell you is that prior to the race a man with a transmitter and laptop programmed their unlimited spec map into the ECU. (Hydrospaces can run all three classes by just using different maps) when their rider won and had to idle over for tech after the race, the same man with the laptop programmed the machine back to limited class spec, and imagine that it passed tech.

This was for a large jet ski event in Thailand (few of my friends work Tech for the race). They are by no means low budget...but don't you think the factories with their endless dollars (minus Suzuki) would be able to pull off something similar?

You make it so they cant, and if they are caught , the get a seasonal DQ..

The other way is air restrictors. that will have the same effect, and easier to police.

For sure $5000 rebuild 4hr motors are not going to prolong the sport .

Exactly, there is always a weak link that needs to be accounted for. People do this on trucks/cars with tuners going from 6k to 6500-7k RPMs and then valve springs or some weak link fails.

...that every racer should be able to drop their worst race (or even 2 worst races). The bike is a part of the sport but this is an individual (the racer) competition. Things out of their control should not upset the points like this.
I agree with this, I've been saying this for years! I believe two motos should be allowed to be dropped.
So....consider this scenario. Entirely hypothetical, but still Rider A . 12 motos finishes first (300 points) . 12 motos finishes second (264 points) Total points 564...
So....consider this scenario. Entirely hypothetical, but still

Rider A . 12 motos finishes first (300 points) . 12 motos finishes second (264 points) Total points 564. Drop worst 2 finishes (-44 points) . Final total points 520 for best 22 motos.

Rider B . 12 motos finishes first (300 points) . 10 motos finshes second (220 points) Two motos crashes out and DNFs
Total points 520. Final point total after deducting 0 points for crashing out of two motos......520

So we have 2 guys tied for the championship after dropping a couple of motos but one guy actually did what he was supposed to do and finished all of his races (it's an individual sport, right). But because we think the other guy "identified" as a moto finisher and we don't think its fair that he crashed out, we're gonna let his failure slide and award him the same total points?

You hold a series so that the rider with the most cumulative points at the end of the series wins. It works every time.

My dad tells me the story about in the 70s he went over a jump and when he landed his bike snapped in half. I guess this was common. He said one of the hardest parts back then was getting to the finish line with all the pieces of ur bike u started with.
