Firs off let me say that several of you that have posted in this thread have done an amazing job on restoring your CR's. My hat is off to you!
I too had probs with the corrosion. The magnesium acts as an anode & want to plate the inside of the cooling system. The fix is simple, once you have fixed the water pump area and have cleaned out the radiators.
1. Do not use any coolant with water in it. PERIOD!
All premixed coolant that I have run across has SOME amount of water in it.
2. Make sure that the cooling system is devoid of ALL water.
This means exactly that. Not a drop in the rads, pump or cylinder & head.
3. Use Evans Waterless Coolant

I have been using this coolant for years in my Honda's & have nary of a corrosion issue since.
Your Welcome! LOL

I want to run a '90-1 cylinder on mine (which used to be Dana's bike, the subject of this thred).
I'm not sure if the VF3 reed black makes much difference. Could be an interplay with the PV set-up.

Will be selling some parts for the 87 here soon. 281-750-1705
Kicker and brake petal have a low amount of slop, rads look great,
1 side of the swingarm has some of the lower area missing, like it was ground off? Strange. Is this a 1 year only?
I cant believe some of the parts that are still available from honda, fenders, levers, clutch perch, fork boots.
Anyone have the frame paint code handy?
Cheers
if anyone has a descent right side (exhaust) number plate, id be happy to take it off your hands. Mine has a bit of a curve to it.
It's a dissimilar metal issue
The softer metal becomes a sacrificial anode
There are ways to help this.
You CAN run an antifreeze with water, as long as it has the proper corrosion inhibitors.
One solution we have found that works is actually incredibly simple, take the water pump cover and have the inside powder coated. DO NOT have the edge, where the gasket sits, done. If you do it won't fit together right.
Had many customers call on this issue and suggested this fix and they've reported problem resolved.
Evans will help, because it has no water, but because there is no water in it, it runs hotter. Your engine will run hotter. This cannot be disputed. Imagine if you poured 100% Prestone into your engine with no water, do you think it will run cooler or hotter? Same concept. BUT, because there is no water, it eliminates corrosion.
Catch-22, huh?
Want a hotter running engine and all the negatives that come with that, or another solution that actually fixes the issue rather than mask it?
If anyone wants to call and discuss this, feel free
Happy New Year
